I read someplace that the government's idea (which counts since they're bailing them out) is to simply fold Chrysler and give Jeep to GM.
I would imagine even though Jeep is a niche brand it has some value. Would it live as an independent company or try to merge with a bigger player?
JEEP is nothing without the corporate structure of chrysler... It'd be interesting to see what they might do as far as selling brands off, but if they sell Jeep then they are doomed to fail.
Dodge has ALWAYS trailed in sales between Ford and GM... both of which have consistantly taken the 1st place awards on certain niches through the years.
Though GM is by far larger, they have a bigger investment overseas which makes them more profitable, whereas Ford has only dabbled in europe over the years and has just recently started to take a big chunk of sales there which is why Ford hasn't NEEDED the loan from the government yet... though they do have enough liquid income from using everything they own as a collateral they have yet needed to dip into it.
all the "loses" they've posted are nothing more than depreciation of stock and equipment.... it's not really a lose in the terms that they haven't sold enough vehicles... it's just simply a way for them to value their collateral.
