If Chrysler dies what would happen to the Jeep brand?

Jeeps will always be made, due to the power and value of the Jeep name. It's just a question of who will be making them.

[Begin Rant]
I have no problem with Jeeps, but you have to spend thousands of dollars on parts to get a 1990s Cherokee up to par with a stock 1990s Explorer:

SYE kit
Manual hub conversion
8.8 rear swap
297 front shaft swap
Low-torque camshaft

In the end, why not just get an Explorer and get a real frame as well?
[End Rant]

To be fair, a new Explorer is a POS compared to a new Jeep.

I am confused, but I am also heading out so I guess I don't really care.

If you have any questions just post them up.

Are you confused about my comment saying a new Explorer is a POS compared to a Jeep? I say that because the new Explorers are IRS, IFS, and some don't even have low range as I understand it. You can still get a Jeep with a good low-range tcase and solid axles.

my 2 c, jeeps are a novelty. you get bad gas mileage, little cargo room, and there $$$$. only enthusiast really set out to get a jeep, hence all the 4 door and long wheel bases ect. that have just came out. if you going to "eat" mpg. it better be able to do something; if you cant fit anything in it, it better have 30mpg. WHY would people spend 25-30g's for some thing that rides like a truck sucks gas and is useful as a Honda. Any company that gets jeep better do something good with it. they had the jeep truck concept. id buy that!

my V8 jeep gets better mpg than my 4.0 ranger, i can get 24 hwy 19 city. its quicker and has room for 5 people and more room for a system than my ranger.
just drove it to florida and back with 240k on the clock (+1600mi each way), i lost the tensioner pulley in IL and had to sleep in the jeep overnight ill advance auto parts openened.

Come on people! This is a RBV enthusiest site! Can't we get a little support even here? :icon_rofl:

I think Jeep is a fine brand, and some of the models, esp. older ones are downright badass. I would be happy to own one. All I am trying to say is that the older Explorers were a better platform to build up than the Cherokees were.

Like I said, I don't think the Jeep name will EVER die, as long as autos are sold. Someone will always make it, it's just a question of who. I personally would like to see Ford make it. :headbang:

Evan, I am an RBV guy, as well as everyone here. You can still be an enthusiast AND admit that our vehicles are not the best, but the best for us.

With all the solid axle swaps alone, the Cherokee for a few grand less brand new seems like a bargain.

Jason, I am in total agreement that a brand new 2009 Cherokee is better than a brand new 2009 Explorer. And I'm an RBV guy. :D

But as far as a good platform to build up, a gen 1 Explorer is better than a 90s Cherokee. That was the only point I was trying to make, and I wasn't clear. I do apologize for that.

i have also heard the international rumor. i would like to see for take jeep, they would definatly do it right, but that may jepordise the bronco name. im a big fan of both jeeps and broncos, id hate to see either disappear. personally i would like to see international take them. we would most likely see some killer little diesel motors in them.

So now the news is reporting this will be a "swift bankruptcy" according to the actions by the Judge. I really don't think that Fiat is making a wise decision!!!

But you can't put a couch in the back of it and haul it around town!

Back when they bought IH's truck division they killed off the light trucks, they didn't want anything to do with them. If they wanted to they already have a nameplate that is equal to if not better than Jeep, the Scout.

And considering how they love to botch their light diesels lately, I wouldn't stand in line too long for their take on a Jeep.
