I cant find anything about how to replace the water pump. That is bolt location, torque specs, or what gaskets go where. My new one came with 2 gaskets and a o ring. When removing the old one. The O ring dropped and when rolling. So I have no idea where it came from or anything regarding to doing it.

My book doesnt show or tell me anything and I cant find anything about the 2.8l. I looked up mustang 2, Pinto, and Ranger. Nothing.

I could not find our generation (1-2) for torque specs, but 3rd generation is here and I am pretty sure they are the same, if not then they are close:

If this is your pump:

Then the gaskets ought to be self explanatory. The o ring should be real simple to deduce, wrong side of the pump and it wont seal anything and just come off and go into the cooling system. Is it not really simple to figure out just by laying all the parts up together?

Pic stolen from Rock auto -what it lists as a 2.8L for a 1984.

the issue is that I’ve been doing this project spanning over months. So I forgot really where the bolts were and the o ring. The reason I asked about the o ring was because multiple kits did and didn’t come with it. (Pictured) the bolts I have an idea of where they are supposed to go. 3 skinny long ones go around the lower port/ neck and the 2 bigger ones go into the only 2 big holes in the pump. I just want the right info to do it right the first time. Because the manual I have tells me nothing and I couldn’t find anything about it.

I have the Haynes manuals for the Pinto/Bobcat and Capri/Capri II 2.6 & 2.8 engines. The Pinto manual states it's 9 ft-lbf and the Capri manual states 6 - 12 ft-lbf. And, the Haynes manual for the 4.0 states 72 - 108 in-lbs (6 - 9 ft lbf). The smaller gasket is for the thermostat housing. The O ring is placed on top of the thermostat to prevent coolant from going around the edges of the thermostat.
