yes i searched. tech library and pirate4x4 but couldnt find what im looking for
i talked to my old man about it, he said there was only 1 person he knew of around here that could install gears and dad got his dump truck done there and he said it was never the same and ruined a new r&p. and he thinks the same thing is gonna happen for me. so i want to try and do it myself.

i know of a dude who is a member on here who installed gears in his truck and he only had to unbolt hte old r&p and bolt in the new. no messing with shims or what not. what is the case for this? thanks

can i just haul the shims and bearings off my old pinion and throw it all on the new pinion and bolt it together?

No.

It's not really that hard to do but it is a lot of disassembly and reassembly(trial and error) to get the right numbers. Every time you add or remove a shim it changes all the settings not just the spot where you added or removed the shim.

sorry bro, if I were closer Id give you a hand. Gear installation is NOT a bolt in affair. I tell people this all the time. If you just bolt stuff together, you WILL ruin a perfectly good set of gears, and end up costing yourself a whole lot more.

read this:

if there is anything you dont understand in there, than I suggest not digging into your diffs, you will end up doing more damage than good.

do some more reading, and than once you think youve got a handle on it, ask questions.

thats the link i was looking for! im gonna read that whole thing through a few times. then ill try it on some spare gears and axle. you may recieve a pm in the near future. and i appreciate the offer! thank you bud. +1 rep

I think i will take apart a spare axle, completely strip it. every shaft, gear, pinion, shim. and put it back together. then throw the axle in the b2 or the ranger and see if it works ok. if so then ill try the gear install.
