Do you think that little chip will cause a problem?

I seriously doubt it (as long as it's not a high spot).

Is my pattern riding to close to the toe side of the ring gear teeth for me to grind the tooth to fit the x pin?

Id rather not have to run a notched cross pin.

as long as you don't come into the contact patch on the ring gear you should be good. The base of the gear tooth is what transmits the torque, not the top. How much do you need to grind for 4.88's?

I think you're fine. Even if it gets close, remember that under load the contact pattern tends to move out toward the heel slightly, so you'd actually be moving away from that area when any significant load is put on it.

Doesn't this seem like way too much to grind?

I ground my 5.13 8.8" gear and no problem, though for some reason that does seem like more to take off than I remember on mine (I seem to recall more like 1/16-3/32", that looks like a bit over 1/8") :icon_confused:

I think most likely it'll be fine, but maybe someone else wants to weigh in on it.

Maybe you can reposition the ring gear so the pin is more in between two teeth rather than primarily against one tooth (you wouldn't have to grind quite as deeply into them).

This is too much to grind IMO... I ordered a Yukon notched cross pin and im guna try that, if the pin breaks im guna go super 8.8 kit with the c clip eliminator or a 9"....
