Finally pulling the drivetriain! Pics added as I progress!

to remove the old oil seal just screw a metal scew into it and pull :)

Thanks, things are going pretty good right now. I've removed the oil pan and am going to take the oil pump off in a few and finish that up as well. Then I can turn the motor right side up again and finish....hahaha.

In go the rubbery oil pan gaskets and front seal for now. I'm going to have to hold the engine up with the cherry picker while I replace the rear seal I think because the engine stand is blocking access to it:

It seems to be going good, just wish it would go a little quicker........lol

As far as posting pictures, when you "post a reply" just go to the little yellow window with mountains in the "reply to thread" that will say insert image and then you have to insert them from an outsource like photobucket (that's what I use anyways). Go to www.photobucket.com and set up an account (if you have'nt already) and then download your pics on there. Then when you insert the image you just copy and paste from photobucket. If you need more help just ask. Later.

My extra pan for the turbo swap looked like that after a half bottle of degreaser and an hour of elbow grease with a scrub brush. I hates the webbing! :bawling:

You're right ejholmgren!

That username reminds me of "Mike Holmgren" when he was the coach for the "Green Bay Packers" (my team) and they were unstoppable.

Yeah, I just used the pressure washer and what ever did'nt come off after that I just said forget it! I'm not building a trophy truck here, I just want it clean and good running you know? I've just neglected it for far too long is all. The motor still seems to be in excellent shape but just started accumulating leaks. It happens I guess.

The webbing does suck though. Hopefully the excess will come off just through driving. J/K. Take care.

I guess I'll head out to the garage and remove the oil pump to replace all those gaskets and seals.

Ok well just FYI, I thought I'd post up where silicone "IS NEEDED" on a 2.3 or a 2.5 when replacing the oil pan gasket. IT WILL LEAK IF YOU DO NOT PUT SILICONE IN THESE SPOTS!!!
I'm letting it set up for a few while I post up these pics....lol:

Take care guys, on a mission now!

Calling it quits for the night now. Just got out of the shower. Oil pan, front main seal, front auxillary gasket, and oil pump gasket are all done now. It seems like I may need to replace the shaft seal of the oil pump however and it did'nt come with the kit, only the gasket that mates the oil pump to the block was in the kit. Better safe then sorry I guess because I don't want to pull everything off to get to it after it's all back together. It's behind the timing belt!

I'll probably do the rear main seal right before I drop the engine in the truck seeing as I have to take it off of the engine stand to do it. I'll try the screws in it like suggested. Well have a good night guys. I'll be back at it tomorrow.

Dang Hardwareman, you are lucky. I didn't have the option for pulling the engine when I did my front main seal today. But I love the pics you provided. Since you already have the engine and tranny out. I suggest replacing all that is needed.

Once again GREAT pictures. :icon_hornsup:

Thanks.

I kind of had to remove the engine because it was just so oily I could'nt really tell where the leaks were from anymore. The engine has to be removed anyhow to change out the oil pan gasket, or at least jacked up off of the mounts. That's why I opted to do the entire lower end gasket set. Your motor probably was'nt as dirty as mine and I bet your back on the road already.

So how did it go today changing out that seal? Was it hard and did it stop the oil leak? Thanks.

I pulled my engine in june to change the timing belt and clutch, had it out friday night and in by mid day sunday alone, even took a few brakes to go to a local parade and a few things with the girlfriend... but when I swapped the frame I had had practice doing everything so I knew a few things when I got there :)

I just changed the rear main, oil pan gasket and clutch, left the tranny in place, it's easier that way, why'd you pull yours out anyway? it is a pain to get the engine and tranny together while working around the engine mount studs and the oil filter, but it's doable...

Its really easy to do. Takes a good day. Remove the oil filter and drain the oil and its a breeze to do.

Took the words right out of my mouth michowski! Thanks.

I'm not going at it as hard as I should but I'll have it done within the next couple of days. I'm actually glad I pulled everything (it's easy really) because there's no way I'd be able to clean what I've cleaned with everything in place. The whole underside of the actual body (not to mention engine bay) was starting to get toasted from just neglect on my part. Let me see if I have some before and after photos.

These are the best I could find, but you can see in the first pic just how bad it was looking. Definitely needed to be addressed. The second pic is after a pressure washing treatment and letting it soak and the third pic is pretty much done.

for the rear main seal i just use a small drill bit to pop a hole in each side of the seal and then screw in drywall screw to each hole and use a crow foot hammer or other similar item to just pry it out, it works like a charm. Also for the oil pan gasket I would've suggested to use a black RTV for the oil protection factors. Did the instructions or anything with the gaskets mention that those areas require RTV?

I usually do use "black rtv" on everything but I've had good results with blue in the past except on high pressure or heat related parts. I figured it would work since it was such a small area, and the only "rtv" I had on hand was either blue or orange.

Now you've got me scared! I'm finally going to be throwing the engine back in today I think. More pics later.
