It would also be irritateing when i have to get going on the hill at the stoplight in town...traffic might get pissed when i need to stop and kick it out of low range

Im going to disagree....Those welds arent bad considering what there was to work work with.
Welding sheet metal is tedious. When its old sheet metal like that, its almost impossible to get clean, bot the material and the welds. I think it will hold fine. I've made uglier welds that didnt break.

Some of those beads, he completely missed doing the 2 pieces together....

Its not a show car, it will hold, bust out the grinder....
I’m not a professional welder either, but I have had to fix the mess a “professional” welder that “helped” me left by grinding it out and doing it over again.Im going to disagree....

Welding rusty sheet metal together for patches isn’t easy and a lot of times it doesn’t go well. I’ve done my share of patches and more to come.
