It would also be irritateing when i have to get going on the hill at the stoplight in town...traffic might get pissed when i need to stop and kick it out of low range

Bah.. no need to worry about those peasants lol

I heard the 2.0 Lima is the go to engine or a nice Perkins diesel.

Screw it might as well go whole hog with a festiva 1.3

Lemme get the rest of the car once your done yanking the motor out 👍🏻 I want to make a fast festiva in the worst way

Those welds arent bad considering what there was to work work with.
Welding sheet metal is tedious. When its old sheet metal like that, its almost impossible to get clean, bot the material and the welds. I think it will hold fine. I've made uglier welds that didnt break.

Im going to disagree....
He must be just a buddy that claims he can weld, not a professional welder....
Some of those beads, he completely missed joining the 2 pieces of material together....
That's total hamburger...
Its not a show car, it will hold, bust out the grinder....

No hes not a professional welder. And im not concerned with looks...just strength.

He also did it for 50 bucks. So im not bitching. He was the only one i could find short of a speciality shop even willing. So im grateful.

I’m not a professional welder either, but I have had to fix the mess a “professional” welder that “helped” me left by grinding it out and doing it over again.

Welding rusty sheet metal together for patches isn’t easy and a lot of times it doesn’t go well. I’ve done my share of patches and more to come.

No need to be borderline insulting about it.

Wasnt trying to be insulting, just pointing out, he not a "welder"
As I stated, nothing a grinder cant fix....
Not like the OP did the job, just pointing out what I see.....

Lol I didnt wanna criticize, but to critique I do agree a with you, they were a little on the far end of tolerance lol.

I call those guys weld painters...painting metal on with a welder is what they do, or maybe spackle it on lol.

I would have cleaned it up a little more before welding, and maybe clamped em together, push/wedged the bottom up w/ a 2x4 or something if any clamps couldnt get a bite. Sometimes I drill a hole in the top piece and fill it in with weld to the bottom piece. My OCD and love of the angle grinder would have smoothed the goop out more as well, not too much tho to keep meat on the thin metal. Most of my work is more artsy fartsy than structural, so maybe my pov is skewed.

I probably would have been compelled to fill those weld all the way in, get into my tack/cool/tack/cool etc zone.

This is all if the rig was at my place lol. If I went guerilla mobile to his place, it was nighttime and I forgot my favorite flap disc, it would look like that lol. ugly but will hold, and good enough for my buddy.

Nowadays Im so sick of welding aka glueing metal. I try to stick to clean material, ideally on a bench, or avoid welding altogether. I have a milwaukee M12 rivet gun that is more fun to me to use than welding, I'd rivet that thing together like an airplane lol...run some silicone seal and call it a day. I wanna get me a set of those rivet placeholder dealy setups.
