This is my first post so I apologize if this has been discussed before. I did try and search for any previous posts with no luck. Anyway, I am in the process of rebuilding my pawpaw's old ranger, it is a 1993 2wd 3.0 Vulcan automatic trans. Currently has around 102,xxx miles on it and have dropped in a reman engine, transmission, as well as a list of other things. A previous mechanic has gutted the catalytic converters. I am wanting recommendations on what brand of converters to run? I have found them from $216 to $950 and would also like to replace the factory exhaust with a new one. I do not need a loud system just maybe more free flowing. Any recommendations or where I can look would be greatly appreciated.

Walker/Magnaflow/AP Exhaust, they all make good cats, I would suggest the best fit (OEM) option rather than the universal. If you don't want noise but like flow, checkout Flowmaster Exhaust, they have a wide range of mufflers from the quiet to the noisy. I run a Deltaflow 50 on my f150, not too loud but nice rumble.

Matt,

I have always used universal hi flow cats like this from Summitracing, Jegs or JCWhitney. Though they were all Catco branded:

Thank you all for the quick replies.

What was wrong with the factory motor & trans? Seems crazy they'd both be bad after so little miles.

So about 1 week before my grandpa passed away my grandma took him for a drive in his pickup. It had been sitting for about a year and she didn't know that the lower radiator hose had cracked and drained out all the coolant. It completed the hour drive but had damaged the cylinder bores pretty bad. Trans was slipping as well.

That'll do it lol, bummer. It's awesome your bringing his truck back to life though.

thats why i like having this ranger. full size trucks are a bummer in town

It really hasn't needed much, just a little here and there. I have a 3/4 and 1 ton diesels. So its nice to not have to drive a yacht around.

I believe you there, it's too bad it's not a 2.3.. you'd be enjoying a lot closer to 30mpg.

thats awesome. my 3.0 gets 18.5 no matter what speed i go so its very similar to my nissan titan cc 4x4 on the highway but better in town

Ok, so I have one more question for you guys since you have been so helpful. Anyone recommend a dual exhaust system? I ordered a kit from TruckExhaustkits.com and received it Friday. The kit is far from complete, I am giving them a chance to make it right so I am not going to go into detail until they reply back.
