Escorts 2nd SAS

Isnt that alot of $ for a driveshaft that will get changed when you get the doubler? Even i theres still a bit of time between now and the doubler

Thought i mentioned it, the doubler wont fit with the gas tank. I have the 20gal tank. But it might be an option in the future but not for now.
It does seam like a lot of money but they have a lifetime waranty on their driveshafts and with the beafy ujoints and the quality of their work its worth the price. Tom woods driveshafts wanted about $200 more for the same thing. If i cant afford it by the time i go to bundy hill i will just buy a one piece from a JY for now.

Worked my a** off the last two days. Yesterday I helped a friend move most of the morning till 3pm. Then parked the truck in the garage and started tearing the transmission out. That was a PITA. Much easier on a 4cyl, no y-pipe to mess with. Got the trans out, pulled the guts out of it, replace a few bearings and seals, put the 4wd mainshaft in, and had it put all back together last nite at 11pm.

This morning up at 8am. Got the transmission, transfer case, front, and rear shafts in. Took it for a drive. Drove ok, but I think I am going to build a traction bar to help with the axle wrap. Might get rid of most of the vibrations when accelerating.

Here are some pics of it afterwards. No pics taken during the swap. I was to busy with greasy hands even with gloves on.

I still have to get a longer speadometer cable.

When I moved the front axle forward, I forgot about the driveshaft. Now it is to short. There is still about 1.25" of travel left that will be fine for normal driving. I might be ok with it, I think when the suspension extends it might actually shorten or stall the same length.

On the other hand, the pinion angle looks good...

I'm planning on it this weekend. Buddy has an RTI ramp and gonna see how well it does along with looking to check clearances and stuff before i go out and beat on it.
Should have some pics to post afterwards.

glad to see you got it 4wheel drive again!

Check your carrier bearing. I have very little vibration out of the rear end/driveline now. The 2 piece driveshaft was my problem. Switched to 1 piece and vibration went away. I still have axle wrap, but it isn't affecting anything really

Yeah. I need a piece badly but i dont have the funds right now.
Got to get the front spring problem fixed first then i will look into a new driveshaft.

just keep an eye on the u bolt straps at both ends. I drove mine with that vibration for like 6 months. lol. Just make sure the slop doesn't loosen those bolts, or you will end up like my 71... driveshaft laying under the truck and a busted yoke... Needless to say, its a one piece now too.

Glad to see that she is 4wd now. Must be nice knowing people that have place for you to have fun at.

Looking at it being 4wd and everything, safe to say that I have more lift then you now.

Just cracked the junk plastic diff cover. Huge crack at bottom and most of the oil is in my driveway now. Anyone have a steel one they want to get rid of? Need one ASAP!!!

8.8?

Wait-- why did you have a plastic diff cover?!

yeah for the 8.8.

During the 90's ford fried to save money and weight and made alot of stuff with plastics and fiberglass. One of those was the diff cover.
I need one by this weekend might try the junk yards.

i have a steel one and a plastic if you want them. send me your zip and i'll get you a price

Check with Eddie first. Bc idk where my stock one is... But if I find it you're welcome to it for the price of shipping..
