Worked my a** off the last two days. Yesterday I helped a friend move most of the morning till 3pm. Then parked the truck in the garage and started tearing the transmission out. That was a PITA. Much easier on a 4cyl, no y-pipe to mess with. Got the trans out, pulled the guts out of it, replace a few bearings and seals, put the 4wd mainshaft in, and had it put all back together last nite at 11pm.
This morning up at 8am. Got the transmission, transfer case, front, and rear shafts in. Took it for a drive. Drove ok, but I think I am going to build a traction bar to help with the axle wrap. Might get rid of most of the vibrations when accelerating.
Here are some pics of it afterwards. No pics taken during the swap. I was to busy with greasy hands even with gloves on.
I still have to get a longer speadometer cable.
When I moved the front axle forward, I forgot about the driveshaft. Now it is to short. There is still about 1.25" of travel left that will be fine for normal driving. I might be ok with it, I think when the suspension extends it might actually shorten or stall the same length.
On the other hand, the pinion angle looks good...
