engine / trans swap from 84 mustang

Hello, I am looking to put a 302 5 speed manual set up in my 84 2wd shortbed. Does anyone know if the motor & trans from an 84 mustang will work?

Yes, same as any Ranger V8 swap as far as fitment, except.........
The Mustang's shifter is about 6-8" farther back than Ranger shifter so will come up at the front of the seats

If its Fuel Injected you will need the full engine bay wiring harness and Mustang computer
Mustangs used different relay pack, than Rangers

Speaking of fit, might want to try to source the front accessory drive brackets and parts from an Explorer. The Explorer 5.0 used a shortened accessory drive and water pump to fit better in the tighter engine bays that Rangers and Explorers had.

(1)You could get a shift lever like this one made for bench seat cars. (2)I know the street rod guys use a Chevy S10 T5 extension housing and shift rod to move the shifter forward as well, if you fel comfortable tearing the trans apart.

What would be my best option for headers?

If I was doing a 2wd swap I would run tri-y headers. The Shelby knockoffs.
