daily doubler build

I may do that on the 26th. Although I am not sure yet what is going on. I may be installing gears for a buddy....he hasn't said yet. I will get with you if the bog doesn't pan out.

Sounds like a plan. I'll be there for sure, unless some life changing event comes along haha. Like I said, even if you don't make it, I'll be around.

Lets see, where did I leave off...

Ran in the local bog on the 26th and popped my short side inner shaft. Don't have too many good pics of the bog but here's a couple. Yes, it rained.

Yukon sent me a replacement, which came in today. Machining seems better, we'll see how it holds up.

We plan to go back to the Badlands over Halloween weekend, that'll be its test :D

Maybe its just the way I drive, or the fact that there is very little 'rock' to go wheelin on in alberta....but I have yet to snap a shaft/joint and I'm running the original 73' shafts with small U joints with 37's and detroits.

Aside from that, looks like fun and I wish I could find another ranger guy to go wheelin with....gettin sick of towing jeeps out (and I'm not even a jeep hater, short wheelbase just sucks around here).

Yeah my spares are stock shafts. I talked to the guy at Randy's (they do all Yukon's warranty stuff), and he said these shafts were supposed to have gone through a different heat treatment process making them stronger. They do look different, I'll give them that.

Sounds like a lot of guys have been breaking the earlier Yukon chromo stuff, hence the backorder. Hopefully they've got it figured out with this run of shafts.

I told the guy I've got a ranger on 35's and I'm breakin D44 chromo shafts in mud. He said that shouldn't be happening, I agreed.

See if you can find out what their heat treating process is. I'm interested in what they are doing differently, and what properties it yields...

Glad to hear you had a positive experience with Randy's and Yukon. When I blew the spider gears in my Powr-loc in my Superduty they warrantied it with no questions asked, and in two days I had a new unit to throw in.

so you broke an axle shaft in that soup? that suck cause i'm running a similar setup with stock shafts right now.

was it a stocker, or a yukon.

JU - I'm curious myself, but not sure if they'll give out that info. May be a "trade secret." I'll see what I can dig up.

Brad - They were pretty good about it. I called em and they said the shafts were on backorder but I'd be at the top of the list since it was a warranty claim. Honestly I wasn't planning to get one till after Halloween, so I was pretty excited to see this come in.

Slammer - Yep, broke it in the thick of the nasty stuff. I was "stuck" sitting in 2nd gear, single low, just diggin @ ~3500rpm lookin for traction. POP, tire stops spinning. It was a Yukon, but one of their older shafts. Like stated eariler, their new stuff supposedly has undergone a different heat treatment process making them stronger. We'll see.

Did some wheelin over Halloween. Check out 97blackbetty's post in showoff for pics of everyone.

nice pictures, that looks like a great place to wheel.

I finally saw your rig in person. You were going up university in Ptown. It looks awesome.

Hey thanks man! I've got a laundry list of things I'd like to get done before the next wheeling season rolls around, but as you know, the highs have been in the teens lately and I'm not too motivated to roll around in the shed. I've just been driving it, enjoying the snow :)

What was your final solution on the oil level issue in the doubler box? If I end up doing one, I'd like to try and follow the KISS rule and not have to worry about it on my daily driver.
