daily doubler build

I had a fairly extensive thread on RRORC.com discussing why it was happening. This is the procedure and what we came up with.

I ended up filling it till it came out of the fill hole (which is the original vent location) and putting a catch on it to monitor the fluid loss. I lost almost a full 16oz bottle before the fluid stopped coming out of the vent. That's half a quart.

I know it took a tad over 2 quarts to fill it from MY fill location. Guys on rrorc that have the doubler said it takes about 1 quart to fill it from the stock fill location. With those figures, I have 50% more fluid in my case than what there would be stock. I'm happy with that.

The general consensus was I was overfilling it, and the fluid would aerate to the point that it would push the fluid out of the vent line. I eventually lost enough fluid that the aeration wasn't enough for it to fill the case when it expanded.

Since it stopped leaking, I removed the catch. After driving it a couple days, I noticed I was losing fluid again (oil spots on the tailgate, drop hanging from the vent line, etc). So I put the catch back on. I don't lose fluid with the catch. I lose fluid without it. This tells me that the wind may be a factor, causing a low pressure that pulls the fluid out somehow. I've just been running it with the catch on it until I re-route the vent to a 'less windy' location. Haven't lost a drop since I re-installed the catch.

Sooo I guess it's not 100% solved yet, but I think I've about got it taken care of.

Gotcha, I caught most of that somewhere already (PBB most likely) but just wanted to be sure. One of the expanding sealed vent nozzle's might be a good solution.

Remember you PM'd me about this awhile back?
I checked my level the other day and it's still to the top of the sight glass I made, that's after at least 1200 mi since I filled it, maybe more.
I'm not sure why yours is coming out like that unless it's overfilled like you said.
I have a small drip from a leak , but I'm not losing fluid out the vent. Maybe I got lucky by putting the vent on the side.
I have all my vents - both trans cases and tranny tied into one line and ran to the engine compartment.

Yep, I remember. And the side vent was going to be my next 'solution' if I didn't figure any thing out by installing the catch. Like I said, I'm still a half quart over stock so I'm fine with that. There's guys running em at the stock fluid level without issue it seems, though I doubt they DD em.

Not necessarily wheeling adventures per se, but I've been enjoying the snow. I will say I've NEVER been able to push snow with my bumper when I had the TTB and 33's. I drove out of this for the record, just hopped out for a pic.

I usually lay low over the winter, never been to a park when there was snow on the ground, etc. I've got a few minor mods planned for when the weather gets back into the 40s or 50s. Other than that I'm just looking forward to another great season of wheelin.

I guess this is kinda wheeling related, I've spent most of my time this winter building this thing.

I've been having a blast with it. Its so much like real wheeling; gotta pick good lines, pay attention to wheel speed and steering input, etc. I think I've found something to fall back on when I can't afford to do the real thing anymore :D

haha yeah. I've had a nitro truck for a long time. This is my first electric rig. The nitro definitely gets expensive, and is pretty time consuming (constantly tuning). This crawler is a little more my pace.

I forked over some cash for decent components, and I hope it'll keep my interest for a decent while. Like 45 minutes to charge and right at an hour run time. Works out pretty good.

Did the lift come in already?

No it's on a back order for the bumpstops and all the mounting hardware goes in that box so maybe two weeks at the most he said should have it

Thought I'd update this thread. Hopefully it'll be at the top more often as I go on more wheelin trips this spring/summer.

Anyways - Talked to Duffy and the solution to the fluid purging was to relocate the vent to the actual blockoff plate itself, use a 90* vent and run it up. I actually filled it to Duffy's fill hole, just to see how much fluid that was, which came out to be right around 3/4 of a quart. I went ahead and fill another half quart more than that, but nowhere near the 2 quarts I used to be filling it with. No problems since :icon_thumby:

Threw some 'new' shocks on the rear since my old ones seized up on me over winter (got water in em and froze up).

Other than that I've just been driving it for the most part.

Went wheelin this weekend and met up with Cheapthrills - check Attica Invasion in Showoff for pics. I'll throw a couple pics of my truck from the trip in here just for good measure.
