Cursed? 2nd failure on way home two weeks in a row (tail gate handle broke)

Monday last week on my way home the HVAC in my 2011 Ranger went 'defrost only' mode; got it fixed Sunday. Today (Tuesday) my tailgate handle broken when I tried to open it after work. Plastic arm on left side broke. Ford is proud of them wanting $154 for a plastic handle!

I loath Dorman but it seems that have a metal handle for $27 on Rock Auto, $32 from AutoZone and O'Reallys wants $54, Napa wants $60? Found other options for a metal handle a bit cheaper but reviews say they work but are noticeably smaller. Reviews on Dorman part all seem to say it fits fine. Perhaps I'll try my luck with the $32 DOrman part from AZ?

I would, they're really easy to change so a low risk part. Mine was bent on my '97, it was metal and was able to bend it back. Was able to do the same thing on my '90...
