Clunkers for cash

they are sold to scrap yards, as body/interior parts are sold. actually, all the scrap yard owners i've talked to dont even use the liquid glass, in fact, the 1994 explorer we have has an engine out a CFC vehicle. who the heck is gonna check vins? noone. although the wrecker we got ours from was a good friend, and wouldn't sell them to anyone

Im sry but do you know anything about this program or how they kill the motors? the scrap yard owners do have anything to do with the liquid glass. that is do at a dealership and the dealers wont let them leave till the motors are trashed. so no matter what the motor is going ot have the shit in it.

and i was told you cant rebuild them after which is bullshit this whole program sucks perfectly good cars wasted and there mostly v8s which people are going to want in the future

When you takes them engines apart, please post up a thread with pics. I know tons of people want to see just what this stuff looks like and how it acts. I feel pretty sure the heads probably won't be able to be pulled off the block.

Actual procedure, 139 pages in all on disposal of CFC.

Appendix B to Part 599 - Engine Disablement Procedures for the CARS

Engine Disablement Procedures for the CARS Program
THIS PROCEDURE IS NOT TO BE USED BY THE VEHICLE OWNER

Perform the following procedure to disable the vehicle engine.

1. Obtain solution of 40% sodium silicate/60% water. (The Sodium Silicate
(SiO2/Na2O) must have a weight ratio of 3.0 or greater.)
2. Drain engine oil for environmentally appropriate disposal.
3. Install the oil drain plug.
4. Since the procedure is intended to render the engine inoperative, drive
or move the vehicle to the desired area for disablement.
5.Pour enough solution in the engine through the oil fill for the oil pump
to circulate the solution throughout the engine. Start by adding 2 quarts
of the solution, which should be sufficient in most cases.
CAUTION: Wear goggles and gloves. Appropriate protective clothing should
be worn to prevent silicate solution from coming into contact with the skin.
6. Replace the oil fill cap.
7. Start the engine.
8.Run engine at approximately 2000 rpm (for safety reasons do not operate
at high rpm) until the engine stops. (Typically the engine will operate for
3 to 7 minutes. As the solution starts to affect engine operation, the
operator will have to apply more throttle to keep the engine at 2000 rpm.)
9. Allow the engine to cool for at least 1 hour.
10.With the battery at full charge or with auxiliary power to provide the
power of a fully charged battery, attempt to start the engine.
11.If the engine will not operate at idle, the procedure is complete.
12.If the engine will operate at idle, repeat steps 7 through 11 until the
engine will no longer idle.
13. Attach a label to the engine that legibly states the following:

This engine is from a vehicle that is part of the Car Allowance Rebate
System (CARS). It has significant internal damage caused by operating the
engine with a sodium silicate solution (liquid glass) instead of oil.

14.File this document in the file for the new vehicle purchase.

I am going to hold onto all parts until I get my 1998 ranger up and running....only thing i am getting rid of is the 3.0 and auto tranny..and all 3.0 parts i will not be using

the 2000 was in perfect condition with 108K...the grey leather interior was perfect...I have to figure a way to get the grey leather buckets into the ranger

I saw a 95 Ranger getting this done to it just the other day. It had 60,000 miles on it, an old grandpa drove it to the grocery store and back. The bed didn't have a single dent or scratch in it.

Pisses me off. :annoyed:

Stop Talking About All These Ranger Being Killed Please!!!!!!!!

Grab what you need and send them down the line, no point in getting in trouble with a boat anchor of an engine and getting in trouble for it.

You can find one that runs for less $$ than it would take to get one going again, there was a Explorer advertised being parted out on craigslist with 100k on it, you could here the engine run for $800. That wouldn't even cover the parts to get your CFC engine running let alone labor.

Man......I broke a 2/4 inch breaker bar tyryinh to turn the engine over to get to conveter bolts

I'm interested in one of the accessory drive systems off the 5.0L, and possibly one of the transmissions...
