chevy S-10 Baja non working 4x4

so my friend decided to go out in the mud three days ago with his s-10 and got it stuck bad but when he put it in 4 wheel drive the front tires weren't getting any power. We looked at the axle shafts and I saw that the drivers side was spinning and there was a light grinding metal on metal noise would that mean his hub is blown or something else?
yes it took us three days to extract it from the mud.
pretty nasty stuff

under the batt box their is a actuator that locks the axle its controled by vacume that could be bad

ok we were going to check that when we found out that the C.V. joint is gone right at the hub. Me thinks that it might be a small contributor to the non 4x4 capabilities, Don't you?
