Chevy S10

the 4.3 is actually a decent motor but yeah, that distributor at the back of the engine... who ever thought that was good.

my dad had an astro van with the 4.3, years ago. it was actually a great van. it would smoke the tires through the intersection and hauled butt everywhere you pointed it. he got a later one, with awd, that broke down continuously because of the awd transmission. bummer because it was a nice van, otherwise

the smaller v6 that came in the chevys and early 84/85/86 jeep cherokee had the same rear mounted distributor with the same crappy small screw deals to loosen and tighten the cap in place. wait till the pick up goes out 3 or 4 times in a month and you will be good at taking that cap off in the dark with no flashlight.

6-71....well any sort of blower, goes on 2.8/4.3/5.87/7.4 Chevrolet way easier as a result of the rear distributor.

My dad (5'5") in boots cursed doing points on Chevy's: not so bad for me at over 6'.

Back to working on the S10 stepside today. Replaced the fuel filler neck. FYI…. If you can’t don’t the molded rubber hose from the filler neck to the tank and don’t want to pay $42+ shipping to get the cut to fit part from rock auto…… a radiator hose from a 2010 Ram 2500 with a Cummins is 2 1/8”, has the exact right bend, and costs $24…. But it’s still cut to fit.

But can it handle long term fuel exposure?

That I can’t tell you, but I have used vacuum hose in the past on a 1980 Toyota as an emergency fix between the fuel filter and the carb and it held for 5 years. I don’t know how long this will last long enough to find the correct molded part.

True, sometimes the wrong fix that you can get right now is better that the right fix that'll take a week or more. Just keep an eye on it. I'd hate for it to split in a year or two and be spilling gas on something that could light it off. If you start smelling gas fumes when you shouldn't, you know one place to check.

Does this S-10 have to identify as a Ranger to be in here?

How dare you question his truck's identity. :shok:

This is why serving/changing ball joints is important…. And this is why I should’ve bought a TTB Ranger.

That looks like the split up A frame on my nephews car.
I think it's a Chevy and they only made about 300 of them.
It's a tool car, open the back door and a big tool box slides out, I'm not sure what he said they were called
I think his needs a whole new front end put under it.

Are those like that hard to do?

My brother had a S-10 extended cab 2 dr he used for work and eventually gave it to my mom. I think it was about a 2000
I took her to doctors appointments and such all over this country and it was a decent vehicle. Never had any major trouble, I kept the oil changed and such was about it.
That thing would scoot too, had an automatic

Well it’s gone now. Came up with over $1000 in parts that needed to be replaced on the front end….. it’s not worth putting $1000 in to it.

the other S10 that belongs to my GF we are going to replace front end parts over time since she doesn’t have a license anyways

It wasn't worth anything for parts?

Dad had several S-blazers, all 4.3 4wd’s. had to replace a couple of spiders, ball joints were common, easy to do which was good since they werent built heavy enough for the weight of the chassis and didnt last more than 3 years. I toasted a engine in one, and a transmission in the other. I understand why the motor went but the transmission? I was in a field and about to get stuck, muddy and soft , as I came to a stop I put it in reverse and nothing. Would still go fwd. Reasonable on gas for what it was, the “best” of his S-blazers got 23 on average, the worst though would pour the black smoke out the exhaust when you took off from a stop and got 12- suspected a fuel system issue, never did figure it out. They are a absolute pain to work on.
