Building an AR

To be honest I have never been around either. I have always liked the looks of them and aperture sights have intrigued me for quite awhile.

But like I said everything but my shotgun has a scope on it. And if I want to down the road it down the road the front sight isn't much to work around.

223/556 can reach out to 1k yards effectively but that is with a nice optic of course. A 30mm red dot with pop up sights is all I run. I never run just a dot because well batteries die.

I only have about a 100yd range when the crop is out at my place.

1000yd around here is hilltop to hilltop... with a couple hills in between.

I zero my AK upper in 3 shots at 125 yards. I have a spot that I can reach out to about 750-800 yards. Have not tried that yet though.

Now since you have a built lower, you can buy pre built uppers. True story.

That has crossed my mind... but the lower is so fun to build. :bawling:

Yeah, I don't know what the next move is on it. Took me 10 months to get it this far.

I would still like to get another wheelgun yet too...

Finished off the rifle last night.

Santa remembered me, got a sight from my parents and a 5rd mag for bench shooting/hunting from my brother.

I think it came out pretty good, need to check headspace yet and change out the front sight pin and then it is done.

What do you think of that Anderson bcg? I've heard mixed reviews on them

When I got it I couldn't find a ton of reviews out there on Anderson BCGs but I didn't see much for negative ones. IIRC it is pretty much mil-spec aside from the bolt material itself. It seemed to be about a split out there how C158 compares with 9310, what I got out of it was 9310 is cheaper and is better depending on how well the heat treat is done. Being a machine and tool shop I would hope they know how to heat treat steel.

Key is staked nice, it moves nice in the upper, it dents the rubber of my snap caps when I test fire it... I haven't fired it for real yet. The machining and etching look good. I have no reason to doubt it really.

It is a plain BCG, not the RF85 one.

Like what are people complaining about with them?

People pay big money for name brand shit and will talk shit to back it up.

Simply put, a BCG design has not changed. It is the material and build process that matters. You will pay more for a RRA BCG than a identical BCG made of the same material from a different manufacturer. That is a fact. Find what you want for the price you want to pay for it and move on down the road.

It is hard to dig through all the people putting other brands down just because it isn't their brand of choice whether they have any experience with them or not.

I did try to do my research, I got burned on a Marlin a few years ago and know firsthand how frustrating a piece of junk gun is... I wanted to avoid making one myself.
