I think I saw in a magazine Inland makes M1 carbines now. My grandfather carried one all over Japan during Korea.

Kind of a crazy thing about the carbines is there is no such thing as a matching rifle. New issued rifles were hodge podge combo of parts from different companies. There were companies were reimporting them from Korea in the early 90's for cheap, I have read quality was all over the place.

I have ran about 100rds though my first AR so far in between monsoon season and spring field work, it is a sweetheart of a rifle.

I love my AR; 556 and x39. Either you love them or you do not. I will take my Glock over any other pistol though.

If you ever have to enter a room where you know someone in there is armed and wants to kill you...you don't want a Glock. You want something absolutely reliable. Absolutely. Reliable. You will be killed if it doesn't work. Sexy doesn't enter into it. What you want on the Apollo Mission--one chance or you don't go home. It's down to you, knowing you have to do this thing. What tool are you going to take with you for that single moment?

A knife. That always works.

When I was in the service, it was a revolver. Seal Team 6 and Delta Force used revolvers--.38 Special Smith and Wessons. That was the weapon they used to enter rooms because it was 100% reliable, like a knife. I did room entry and we used revolvers as well. And pump shotguns. Knives and hammers versions of firearms. No Glocks or Sigs or anything else that other units were using. When you knew you were going into a situation where you were going to shoot and your weapon had to 100% work or you would die, there was no question but that it would be a revolver.

A battlefield is different. It's impersonal. It never gets down to that single moment where what you have in your hand has to work absolutely. Room clearing, it has to work. 100%. No Glock.

I think Hoosier has kind of "been there done that" too...

It is neither here nor there with my hunting rifle project however.

For an update I have another MIAD grip, MOE trigger guard is installed in my new Anderson lower. Anderson stripped upper has showed up, has a "7.62x39" dust cover swapped out for the one in the Anderson upper parts kit and the Anderson charging handle is as "installed" as a charging handle gets. Dust cover was kind of a splurge but I wanted it obvious it wasn't a .223/5.56 so there wasn't a mix up and it looks neat. Forward assist hasn't been installed yet, I will do that at break tomorrow with regular roll pin punches at work.

I wanted to at least grab a lower before proceeding with the upper, it was a couple weeks out from coming in so I grabbed the trigger guard and grip on a whim. It is REALLY hard to not grab a lower parts kit and a stock but I am trying to focus on the upper first.

7.62x39... might have to try one of those next.

Currently running 20" 5.56, 16" 6.8 and 16" 22lr uppers. Last thing built was a pistol lower.

Was really wanting a DI (gas operated) 45 acp upper for the pistol, but the few places that make them want entirely too much IMO. Ordered a 10.5" 5.56 to play with.

They changed how they do the markings, my first rifle (top) looks more stamped while my new one looks like they milled out the markings (safety is too)

All tucked away in my $2.99 Kimber pistol case I found in the Bargain Cave at Cabelas years ago.

It is also kinda cool both the upper and lower are keyhole forgings, my last lower wasn't marked.

Brownell's has the barrel $24 cheaper without the gas block, most gas blocks I find run about $20 so $24 for one installed (and pinned on) isn't too far out of line.

A buddy of mine has 3 AR's. He told me he can get me one with a forward assist shipped to me for $650. Seriously thinking about it.

My personal defense weapons are a Glock 22 Gen 4 .40 cal, Glock 42 .380 cal, and my tried and true S&W .38 Special.

You might check Palmetto State Armory. You can get an assembled lower (thru a dealer) and an assembled upper that you just snap together pretty cheap.

They are a riot to build too though but now is not a great time to start that unless you hit hard and get it done fast.

Things are heating up for the election, stuff is starting to get thin.

Will: Been there and done that. We trained with Berreta 9mm and I hated every moment of it. They are almost as bad as High Point in my opinion. I have never had a issue with any of my Glocks; Gen 4 G17, Gen 3 G26 and current edc Gen 4 G19. They go boom every time I pull the trigger. Between the 3 I think have ran several thousand rounds and only had maybe 1 or 2 jams/failure to fires. I think those were related to the ammo though (junk practice rounds).

85: You need to get yours done. Deer season is right around the corner. I know I can use mine for deer at least.

'Tis done (minus scope and mount) No deer hunting in Iowa with a centerfire rifle. I might take it out west for a backup/alternative if I go out west chasing antelope next year though. Fingers crossed they bring back "just about anything goes" late doe season next year but everybody says the numbers are still down so not likely.

Scope is a $30 Tasco that I could never get the eye relief right on with my muzzle loader. With where the rings (too tall for my 91/30) put it the eye relief is nice on this one. A tad too low but it is better than nothing at the moment. Both will be replaced.

It likes steel cased Red Army Standard ammo, brass cased Fiocchi seems to be underpowered for it. I have just been shooting into my terrace, haven't checked accuracy at all yet.
