Benz om617

I had a Courier for a few years in the 80's, never had a problem with it.

This one has a few quirks to work out but if I run it as is till I get the body cleaned up will be a nice truck to diesel and hopefully 4x4

Why's that?

The 1.8 in the courier is not the best and the front end in the truck is basically shot. Have a hp dana 30 out of a Cherokee the non axle disconnect start with axle swap then move on to motor swap so I know everything clears and rear axle swap will just made to match the height I don't want it miles high just well balanced

Got the 96 jeep dana 30 non axle disconnect at a good price now I think I'm gonna start hacking the truck up

advice: take off the banks turbo! 6.2 has enough crankshaft issues without turbo pressure thrown into the mix. pulled a lot of 6.2s out of trucks still running with broken cranks back in the late 80s and early 90s. GM dealer didn't want to deal with the issue so we did a lot of gas swaps on our customers fleets. :icon_thumby: the 6.2 made us a lot of money:icon_rofl:

this has merit. these engines only weigh 720 pounds...so not much there. the 4bt weighs the same for comparison...:shok:.

but the banks is well done, if that thing is still running it is likely fine as the banks is conservative.

not that it matters for this thread with you reporting the seller turned out shady, but if the truck engine had a later swap done it could have a good mil spec engine in it which are brutes. so if you reading this know to look at the 6.x carefully because there are good ones out there and as time goes on only the good ones will be alive. and they love to live in sas rangers.

ecoboosting the courier with a 2.0 would be awesome.

Need about 5 inches back into the firewall but overal should fit pretty well tunnel will need to be modified as shifter will be farther back then factory shifter. May have to get creative to make new shifter in a comfortable position. I have a old international truck that the body is shot but the old emergency brake leaver is there and looks cool I want to fit it in the truck somewhere too!

I talked to the guys at mercedes4x4. They don't plan on making an adapter. A guy could build his own out of 1" aluminum and a piece of 1" steel for a flywheel/flex plate adapter.
Or he could just find a trans/t-case combo mb4x4 already makes an adapter for. I'm puting a 617 in my willys truck and I will be using their adapter for a 5.0 aod.

I agree with rowdy buy a trans that they build the kit for. its fool proof it works and really affordable after building my own bell housing I am stuck with a lighter duty trans then what a v8 would have behind it.

The end of the 4 cylinder in my courier. I am buying a new house and garage needs some love before winter but I have a space to make the courier amazing now
