Passenger Side CV Axle wont fully seat

Hey guys, me again. Lookin for some expertise.

My passenger CV axle will not fully seat. I’ve attached a picture of how much gap there is. The seal is quite exposed.

The splines are lined up correctly, as the axle slides in like butter until it seemingly bottoms out. I also have the C/snap ring gap at the bottom so it “hangs”, as I’ve read it is a good idea. This is the same part number as was in there previously, an autozone duralast gold brand cv axle. Any advice?

Also, an interesting note, once the cv axle is in that position, I have to pry it out. I can’t just pull it out. Which makes me wonder if the machining process for that specific part changed.

Currently at a loss, and its 11pm so I may not respond for several hours but will be checking this out first thing in the morning.

I’ve had them stick before because of that retaining clip thing hanging up. I always put a little grease on the splines and that clip before putting it together.

I think I heard somewhere that if it doesn’t want to seat to go at it like a toilet plunger although I don’t know if that’s acceptable to do with the CV ends

Gave that a try, still no luck. Removing the cv axle this last time actually pulled the diff internal shaft out with it. That did show me that the two ends were sealed up (female of cv and male internal).

So, now I’m wondering if the cv axle is the wrong part (part # is correct but doesnt mean the plant QC didnt mess up) or if that internal shaft isnt seated fully.

Leaning towards the new cv being wrong, the internal shaft isnt coming in or out with me pushing/pulling.

In the same boat. I’m getting it towed (luckily insurance covers it) and dropping off at the mechanic.

My best guess is that the internal spindle is not fully seated, even though it feels like it is. Maybe getting caught on the snap ring, or maybe its slightly misaligned. Also not sure if it needs to be in neutral or not.

Either way, bashing on it will probably just cause more problems so throwing in the towel.

Will update with what the mechanic says though, for the next poor soul with this issue.
