I got one recovered years ago for $100.

Recently, pulled it out completely. Covered the flat areas with sound mat and velcro loop material.

Velcro...I like that. Another way to show your stuff and stick things outta the way. My headliner is in pretty good shape, but strategically located strips might come in handy.

I got my headliner at the local U-pull. $35 in like-new condition.

Not at all - mines an 05 extra cab so I don't know what the differences might be, but I'm guessing not much. Philips to remove sun visors, small socket (like 6mm or so) to remove the grab handles, the trim just pops out, with maybe a couple of those plastic push fasteners in the back corners. Oh, and dome light, Philips also IIRC.

I'm thinking the 2 door is probably even easier. The second time you do it it's a 10 minute job.
