I just purchased a 2002 Ford ranger with the 4.0l, automatic and 4x4, when buying it the previous owner told me the truck has "quirks" I have since been able to fix every quirk relatively easy (sliding window off track, pass door key not working, etc) all except for the speedometer and the odometer do not work. I have tried 2 other gauge clusters that I sourced out of other trucks, (one from a 1996 ranger manual 4x4, and one from a 1996 auto 2wd) neither of those would make the odometer work or the speedometer work. The previous owner supplied a new output speed sensor, I replaced that even though I had no hard shifts or transmission issues. Cruise control still works, I have no abs light, I only have a brake light. I get a speed signal out from my OBD2 port, and I have tested the gem wires behind the cluster with AC volts and when the truck is moving the volt meter goes from 0v to 5v+. Is it possible that I have 3 dead speedometers? I have tested the speedometer needles on 2 of the three with a double a battery and they both moved, I'm just at a loss and hoping someone else could add some information. I have read a lot of the other forum posts and couldn't find much that would help in my circumstances.
