Made a verbal agreement to buy another 1977 Pinto. It's looks to be in much better shape than the other I brought home a couple months ago. This one has a 2.8liter and I think an auto. Didn't actually check...
If it's stick then great. If auto I want to know if I can put an a4ld from my '86 2.9liter. It was rebuilt not long before the motor pooched. I want the overdrive. If so what parts do I need? Starters the same? Flexplate? Torque convertor?

I took a pic of this car a year ago when I first found it. Unfortunately my SD card with the pics went tits up. I'll post pics as soon as I can...

Youll need some way to control the lockup on the A4LD

Yeah, I thought of that. There is an article in the tech section on how to do that with a simple on/off switch.
Oh yeah...seems i remember reading about that around here at one point. Good memory lol

So I went and put money down on the pinto. Asked the owners for some history. It's been in the family since new, passed from mother to daughter to other family. It was running good until the magic smoke left the wiring harness in the engine bay. I saw the damage and it shouldn't be too hard to fix. Seeing as I have two pinto I'll look at the other one first to see if I can utilize the harness from it. Otherwise I have lots of automotive wire to scab in my own fix.

And the other harness looks good! Woo-hoo!

I drove a Pinto from Dallas down to Ft Walton Beach in late 71. An uncle stationed there just back from Thailand had asked me to come down with his wife and baby. It was cold as ice in Dallas and I said Florida here I come.
Got there and it was first snow they'd seen in 40 years
I spent New Year's Eve sittin in it listening to the top one hundred countdown on Ft Walton Beach

Cool find. Looks like it has been stocked up with a few "header kits" in the back hatch. :icon_rofl:

There's usually a Pinto that body style and color at Carlisle, it looks like a new car until you see the Turbo Coupe engine under the hood. The engine was installed so that it looks factory, too.
I think an A4LD would be a good upgrade, a T5 makes a different car out of a Pinto like it did my Cobra II. Remember to thoroughly flush your cooler and lines when you install the new trans.

Got it home today.
In the last pic you can see where the magic smoke left. Apparently it was driving well until then. Pulled the dipstick and oil looks new...
