Just curious how many active Hams are in here.

What got you into radio, what’s your favorite mode and what would you like to dive deeper into?

Off-roading lead me to GMRS which lead me to the amateur bands and added another expensive hobby to the list. I’ve really been enjoying working SSB DX on 20 and 40 meters as well as building antennas. Just recently started working FT8 and curious about JS8Call. I’d really like to learn CW (Morse code) but struggling with remembering letters. I frequently get them backwards when practicing.

If any one is Ham curious, feel free to chime in.

KI4IKT but haven't transmitted in almost 20 years. I would mostly talk on one of the 2m repeaters in Nashville. Life happened and now I just keep my license active in case of the apocalypse. 😄

Nothing worse than the dang FCC tracking you down for a license violation during the apocalypse :icon_rofl:

I had a ham license but I let it expire in 2011. I was on 2M for the most part. Being in my late teens when I got my license, my interest waned pretty quick when I figured out it was almost exclusively geriatric folks that were into amateur radio at the time. Nothing wrong with that - just not my crowd at the time - girls, trucks and beer were a bit more important. I sold my radio a long time ago but I still have a copper pipe antenna that I made. Can't bring myself to part with that for some reason.

Ol j-pole? I made one with my dad back when I first started. I had it hooked to an HT in my apartment.

Yep! Had it mounted on the peak of the roof on my parents house, right above my bedroom window. It got hit by lightning once which burned a hole in it, then it filled up full of water and froze and burst... lol... bet it would still work though.

I look at it every time I need a piece of 1/2" copper pipe and think, nah, I may need that again someday, and go buy a new piece of pipe.
