AJE Ranger K-Member Who's Done It!?

One of you two might have the fastest ranger on the site when your done.

No disrespect intended, but that's like being King of the Suzuki Balenos.

I'm not interested in being the fastest, just tormenting those that have a distorted perspective of fast.

As I mentioned, this is my last DD project- It will likely run what some think is a fast 1/8 time, but not in comparison to a purpose-built car.

...at this point I'm hoping to get it finished before I draw SS.

Being king is still being king! Lol.

I'm thinking I'll have the most custom badass street Ranger in Oregon. People will wonder why I spent so much money on a Ford Ranger.....myself included ;missingteeth;

I feel that lol. I'm in the same position with my wagon. Tallied up what I've spent so far a few days ago and roughly what I still need to spend on it and had a mild stroke 😆 at least it'll be the fastest in the state.. Hopefully -__-

Small tweak to the turbo plan:

Bought a VSR 7875 Billet gen 2.5 .96 A/R on sale- that should fit the bill quite nicely (and be far more efficient than the Chinese GT45, as well as smaller packaging).

I’ve seen them both side by side and I’m pretty sure the 78/75 was bigger. same turbo my buddy with the s10 is running. Good drag racing turbo for sure.

Thanks- it's going to fit my needs (good boost response, room to grow if desired). For $500, it's a killer deal.

FWIW It's smaller in every way than a GT45; its newer design makes it more efficient both in compressor and turbine.

Hmm I’ve seen them side by side. Exact turbos but it’s been a few months. I have the gt45 at my place now. I’ll have to look again at my buddies. I see those pics paint the picture but that sure isn’t what I remember. They’re less responsive than a gt45 but work great for traction and when launching it doesn’t really matter. I almost went with a gen 1 but decided a s366 would work better for application.

The GT45 compressor map indicates it would be pushed and heating the air at 600whp, so I wanted a bit of room.

The particular 7875 I'm using will be right smack in the middle of the map at that power level- I'm seeing that it will make boost pretty rapidly starting around 3500- as you stated will certainly aid in hooking it up.

The downside is, I chose the smaller turbine housing so mine won't reach 800-900whp without a LOT of backpressure.

Packaging is important to me, as the initial plan is mount it where my radiator used to be and keep the hot / cold side piping as minimized as possible. We'll see how that works out. :)

Do you follow Richard Holdener or Sloppy Mech. at all? Between the two of them they’ve shown you everything each of those turbos can do.

Yes sir. I'm not asking what they will do; I can read a compressor map, and I know that dynos are tuning tools, not absolutes.

I've read the sloppy mechanics LS info- Richard Holdener was the one that advised this turbo in my application. I don't know him personally, mind you- I asked him via email "this is what I'm doing, these are what my expectations are...am I wrong?"

He said "No- the GT45 won't be as efficient / will run out of breath", so I found a 7875.

I could blindly go into this based off of a video or someone else's car, but I'm not really wired that way- I research things, find out what meets my expectations, and go with that. If I'm wrong, I'll spray it ;)

Sorry- I just realized I'm clogging up your suspension thread. I apologize; No more turbo talk :)

I received the new AJE k-member Saturday. It was a nice gesture that they hustled to get another one fabbed up and shipped out to me. I asked that they didn't powdercoat it to help expedite the process, as I intend to clearcoat it. The welds are much nicer (looks like a welder did it this time) and it fit the frame nicely. You can see the front bracket holes the k-member uses at 9 and 3 o'clock on the frame rails:

Per Yotaismygame's advice, I loosely installed it at first, squared everything up and center punched the 0.500" holes to be drilled (one each side) for the rear mounting brackets.

Once everything is square, I tightened the k-member down.

Using a 15:1 Fox body rack from Summit, I loosely installed it to see what the Ranger (I call it Wiley) had it in store for my steering shaft.

Tomorrow I'll finish the install weather permitting, mount the dummy engine and transmission and figure out how my turbo hot side piping is going to go (I decided to coat the stock truck manifolds and use them).

@Yotaismygame Thanks again- This install would have been a bit more challenging without your pictures.

Yeehaw! Do you need any steering shaft pics? I finished my cross over pipe yesterday which is the final piece to the turbo kit. Just about done in the engine bay minus wiring.

Why heck yeah! That will help, as well. Thank you!

I'm media blasting my manifolds tomorrow in preparation for coating (going to do the turbine housing and piping as well, but doing it a little at a time). I'm using 2.25" mild steel for the crossover and merging into the V-band turbine inlet.
