My credo
"220, 221, whatever it takes."
ARB has front and rear air lockers for Gen 5 Rangers now. Says for the rear you have to get a new Jeep JL ring and pinion because the OE Ford unit is welded on.

With the plethora of factory elockers the rear gear being welded shouldn't be a huge issue. Unless you want to regear and at that point who cares.

From my understanding, the front is welded. The back is welded if you didn’t choose the locker option.

I was wondering how they would get around the front axle issue. Since Jeep supposedly shares the same axles, it makes sense that the JL parts would be a match.

My STX does not have the factory rear locker. OTH, getting the ARB, new diff cover for the air line, and a new ring and pinion plus install, I'm guessing at least $1500. With what Carvana is giving people for newer Rangers it might cost less to buy a new one with the rear locker.
Their website didn't say anything about the front ring and pinion being welded, only the rear. Now getting an FX4 or Tremor with the rear locker and adding the ARB front, that would win you any dick measuring contest with the Gen 5 Ranger peeps. (y)

The ARB cover for the real axle is definitely a plan. For both the 2019 and the 2011. A cover for the front axle is a no go for different reasons. Both are pretty well tucked up into the truck, so not a huge concern.

Now the 2011 is going to need a re-gearing as well as a rear locker and some sort of LSD in the front. That is probably going to be about $2,000 when it’s all said and done.

Powertrax No-Slip for the front of the 2011. I think that's the only one available.

There's the powertrax grip pro too, but I can't confirm it works until they actually ship me one. Been on the waiting list for several months. And last I checked, the Torsen hasn't been produced in a while.

Supposedly, Torsen was supposed to have/make more in 2019 but it never happened. Someone else was told 2020 but for obvious reasons, it never happened then either.

I would rather have a gear driven LSD than a clutch driven one but if that is what’s available, then that is what will be bought.

What’s the difference between the Pro and standard?

The grip ls is a clutch pack unit, the grip lok is a full locker, and the pro is a mechanical limited slip like the Torsen. The part number for the Pro that may work for the SLA Ranger is GT443527, and the Lok that is officially listed as compatible is LK443527.

The LK shows these applications:

And here's the GT's list:

I honestly don't understand why there's such a discrepancy between the lists of two that in my mind seem like they'd fit the same applications... Full carrier Dana 35 replacement for 27 spline shafts. Anybody else understand?

Standard rotation vs reverse rotation? I believe RBVs are standard rotation with the IFS.

I’ve also read that a locker in the SLA is not a good idea. The axle isn't strong enough at the half shafts for a locker.

As far as the 2019+ Rangers, I haven’t seen anything about the strength of the front axle or it’s half shafts. I don’t want to infer any possible weakness the Dana 35 SLA axle has with the new Advantek axle. Jeep forums that use the same front axle might shed some light.

Maybe so. It's odd that about half the entries appear in both lists, and that the part numbers are basically the same minus the LK vs GT descriptor.

Finding good info on what works with the Dana 35 SLA is certainly a challenge. Info is all over the place even when it comes to the same part on different web sites. Very frustrating.

Bronco with factory 35's gets a front axle upgrade so that may shed a little light on it.

Good point. Do they upgrade the axle if you select the front locker option without choosing the larger tires? Or is that option not available without the tire upgrade?

I think you have to get the Sasquatch (package that includes 35's) package to get the heavier axle. Badlands Trim (33's) may have the M210 also now that I think about it.

Our Black Diamond (32's) is the same M190 as a Ranger.
