My guess is you have a big vacuum leak, the good news is that it should easy to find now.
Do you think I had a big vacuum leak before I changed the plugs or maybe I knocked something loose while replacing them?
Also, why would it be easier to find? It's probably really obvious but I don't know what you mean lol.

The only thing you changed was the plugs on one side. Look in the area you were working for damaged or missing vacuum lines. Start the truck and listen for hissing. Or grab a can of starter fluid and spray around the lines. If the motor suddenly revs up, you found your leak.

We want to figure out what changed before we get back to the other issue. We need to make sure only one thing is changed at a time or we'll just be chasing our tails.

I wish I could put hands on your motor. I feel like it wouldn't take long to figure things out.

Agree.

There's a multiport vacuum tap on the driver side at the rear of the intake manifold and one at the passenger front of the manifold. trace out those lines and see if knocked any of them loose.

I changed all the plugs except the #3 plug. Later today I'm gonna go out and look all around where I was working. I easily could've knocked something loose, I wasn't working carefully like I maybe should've been.

I always seem to knock off the hose that goes to the airbox when I work on the passenger side.

Got the plug wires in today so I went out there and got to working, finished replacing the plugs, cap, rotor, and wires. I figured out why my engine was running funny yesterday... My #3 plug wire wasn't plugged in... I know that I plugged it back in yesterday, but it was after I put the tire back on, so it was hard to reach. I guess I didn't plug it in all the way. I triple checked all of my connections this time. Haven't taken it for a test drive, but idle went back to the way it was. Thanks for your help so far guys.

Just realized I haven't really addressed the compression test. I never did one, which is really stupid of me. I returned the tester to O'Reillys yesterday because I didn't know when I'd have time to do it. Now that I know how to get all the plugs out, a compression test will be a lot faster. Whenever I have the time to do one, I will.

Just remembered another thing. When I started it up I remembered to check how much air was coming outta my exhaust, to eliminate a clogged cat. There's a fair amount of air coming out, not sure what would be considered good. It's not a steady flow, it's more like a heart beat is the best way I could think to explain it.

Had a question about the fuel injector cleaner. The local auto parts store doesn't seem to have the startron stuff somebody was talking about, but what about Chevron techron? Read online and it seems to be pretty good stuff.

After I wrote this I realized that I had never checked the function of the device that this line is hooked to. Turns out that device is called a "cold weather modulator" that when it is cold it sends vacuum to the valve in the lower air tube to bring hot air off the exhaust manifold.

Well the "cwm" is bad, it won't hold vacuum at all. So basically for who knows how long it has been a big vacuum leak. I plugged the port on the intake and went for a drive and yes it runs smoother and has more power.

Hmm, interesting. How would I know if my "cwm" is bad? And how would I plug the port on the intake if it is bad?

Techron is good stuff, If you have a Costco they usually have a four pack that works out to be a good savings over auto parts stores. The reason I like Startron is that it also treats ethanol gas to make it less likely to gum up from water and stabilizes fuel for a year or more. I have actually stored gas for a year with it and then used it.

Use the Techron, it's like a big cleaning hit up front and then maintain with the Startron over time. The cheapest way to get Startron is through Amazon. Autozone and Tractor supply both carry it here in their stores.

Ok, don't have any Costco's around so I'll have to overpay at the auto parts store lol. How long after using the techron should I start using the startron and how often?

What I did is put vacuum on the hose (used my mouth) after I pulled it off the intake. If it draws air it through it it's not good. I tested the line to the valve on the lower air intake and the valve moves (fast) when vacuum is applied.

I wrapped some duct tape around the nipple on the port at the intake and drove to the parts and got a set of vacuum plugs, they are just little rubber caps/hoods. More low cost ideas are to put a screw in the end of the vacuum line, golf tee, etc...

I'd try the Techron for a few tanks or until it is running well enough that you think it has stopped getting better with more use. Then the Startron every other fill up, and the just go by how well you think it is working or not.

Got another problem, anyone who can help I'd really appreciate it ASAP. Started off this morning, following my grandpa to do some stuff. Right when I pushed on the gas pedal, I noticed it was sitffer than usual. Usually it feels like nothing there but now I had to put slight effort into pushing down on it. I noticed my acceleration was poor as well. Kept going then when I made it to the highway I could really noticed the difference, I couldn't get above 45-50 mph. Pulled over but everything was too hot to check so we went and did what we needed to and came back. Checked all the plugs and wires, had to push one wire down at the dist, but the others were fully connected at the plug and dist. Grandpa thought maybe it was my gas pedal or throttle cable. Checked that and it seemed fine. Checked my air filter and it was really dirty so we took it out. Drove home going 40-45 (couldn't go any faster) the whole way. On the way home I noticed the pedal had returned to normal. Anybody have any ideas?

This is the only suspicious looking thing I could find. Not sure if anything was connected to that little piece before, but there sure isn't anything connected now. Anybody know what it is or what it does? It's on the passenger side near above the #3 plug on the valve cover.

Throttle pedal problem, mine does that if the kickdown cable for the auto trans gets pushed around a little. I just wiggle it around until the pedal feels good again.

The picture looks like a pcv valve with an extra vacuum tap. Mine has that and the extra vacuum tap is plugged on the end. If you need the extra tap you are supposed to cut the end off of it before you put a vacuum line on it.
