Throttle pedal problem, mine does that if the kickdown cable for the auto trans gets pushed around a little. I just wiggle it around until the pedal feels good again.

The picture looks like a pcv valve with an extra vacuum tap. Mine has that and the extra vacuum tap is plugged on the end. If you need the extra tap you are supposed to cut the end off of it before you put a vacuum line on it.

I looked all around the engine bay and I couldn't find anything unplugged or loose. Just took it for a test drive and it just has no guts. Bringing it to mechanic shop tomorrow, things have moved past my knowledge. My grandpa thinks it's the cat, which it may be. Just gonna let the mechanic figure it out.

When one of my upper intake gaskets cracked and opened a big vacuum leak it felt like it took away a hundred horsepower. Strange thing was that it idled nearly normally with just a touch of roughness.
They're are a couple of good YouTube videos showing how to check for a clogged catalytic converter. Basically you hook up vacuum gauge and run the engine up to about 2000 rpm and watch the gauge. It will start dropping if the cat is clogged.

Finally got my pride and joy back today! They were busy Monday and Tuesday but today they got a chance to look at her. They said that my dist was goofed up (not their exact wording, but I forgot what they said exactly). I might've messed something up when I did the dist cap, not really sure. I'm starting college on Monday and have to look for a job, so progress on the 87 is gonna stop for a bit. Also, my grandpa has helped me decide that "if it ain't broke don't fix it", so I'm gonna live by that motto for a while on the 89. She runs better than ever before. Idle is smoother, acceleration is quicker. Also, when accelerating while floored, my tranny used to shift pretty hard but not anymore. I'm happy and my BII is happy. Thanks for everyone that helped me in trying to figure out the problem.

Have to say, that was my most enjoyable drive ever in that little BII. I'm guessing the dist was off by a little bit the whole time I've had it. Also the new plugs and air filter probably contributed a bit. Going 65-70 on the highway with cruise control, make it to a hill and there's no problems, just eats em up. Also, acceleration is so much smoother and faster. Before the new plugs and stuff, when accelerating with the pedal to the floor or half throttle, the trans would shift really hard into 2nd. Haven't really been able to check gas mileage as I've only taken one 30 mile trip. Gonna stop on my way home and pick up some injector cleaner, just to see what happens. What were you getting for mileage? I take a lot of short trips, less than 10-15 miles and some 20 mile back country therapy sessions with radio blasting and my last tank was 15.5 mpg. I remember when back when we had a new 86 it would get 20+ on the highway (55 mph speed limit) and it seemed to go forever on a tank of gas.

Didn't really pay attention enough to my gas gauge. I'll keep an eye on it for the next few days, then get back to you.

Your timing was probably off a few degrees. That's what the distributor controls. Either that or you got the order wrong when replacing the wires. It's something all of us have done. Engines don't like firing at the wrong time.

After some very challenging math, I've narrowed my gas mileage to around 20mpg. My math could be off some considering when I fill up my tank it goes another quarter lengths past the F. Most of the driving is highway (65-70mph) and interstate (55-70mph), then about 20% is city with different speeds. Let's just say between 17 and 20mpg.
Honestly, I thought I definitely got something wrong at first, seems like I've been using way more gas than that considering I had to fill up once on Sunday evening, then again on Wednesday evening. After thinking, I have been driving a lot to get to and from college. Approximately 75 miles total each day, 85 for two of those days. That comes out to about 250 miles in 3 and a half days. I'm happy with the mpg numbers, but not the $ numbers.

That's a good indicator that your motor is running well. BII's have 23 gallon tanks, at 20mpg, you've got well over 400 miles of range.

Yeah I would hope good mpgs would mean good engine health lol. Before the timing was fixed, I was getting 11 mpg. I wasn't driving half as much as I am now (for college) but I still had to fill up every 3-4 days or so.
I'm still in disbelief so I'm still gonna keep an eye on the fuel gauge, might put a piece of paper and pen in my car for a week or so to get a more accurate reading.

Don't worry about the fuel gauge being off. Just fill it up, reset the tripometer, and drive it a few days. Then fill it up again and divide miles driven by gallons needed to fill up. That's a number you can trust! Lol.

Well, the issue is I can't fill up all the way because my filler neck has a crack in it. I usually put 14 gallons in when I reach a quarter tank and that brings me right at the F. I suppose I have 3 or so gallons left to fill.
I'm glad it's doing better too!
