well i was going to start my build thread earlier but ive never had access to a camera till recently and threads are useless with out pics.

well heres the poop i got the ranger a yr and a half ago. found a 6in lift in the junkyard threw that on and drove it around for a lil while. the guy before me did the wheel bearings but didnt do it right and left out some spacers and locknuts so every couple days id have to pull the wheel and tighten the wheel bearing. well i was on my way home one day to do the wheel bearing right and when i was a block away my wheel bearing exploded and went rolling into my neighbors ditch. :icon_surprised: i bet you didnt see that one coming. lol

so i threw it in the yard for a lil while till i could get the money together to redo everything. well a buddy i work with offered me matching axles out of a 79 f100 at a price i couldnt refuse so i went with it. d44 hp and a ford 9. and ive been procrastinating for the past year and getting money together so now ive got the ball rolling on it. done all the research i can and im doin everything on it as cheap as i can. i have $1900 total invested in the truck so far including price of the truck and a lincoln 140 welder i got out of a pawn shop.

if you dont like the way im doing it then tuff. its not your truck.:icon_cheers:

It looks good, are you gunna run different different radius arms so that you dont need drop brackets?

thanks guys,
-i got 35s right now but they look wayyy too small for the truck i just got a set of 39s thatre goin on soon.
-ive been thinking about all the different ways i can set up the suspension and im gona see how this setup works for now. i dont have money to throw away in this truck so if it works then it works and im gona leave it.

i still need advice on what to do for u-joints? ive been lookin up as much as i can and i still cant find any conclusive articles or threads about u-joints.

axle u joints or D shaft u joints?

Oh and I would be careful with a D44 and 39's

I think the tire size you have look good. Thats a pretty good total cost so far for this SAS. Going to re-enforce the drop brackets more,or do the pics not show everything? What are your plans on doing with the truck, just some simple off roading? If so, your rad. arms should be fine if your not going for crazy flex.

x2 on the 39s and the D44, be careful.

the driveshaft u-joints. idk what to do about them yet?

we dont have any serious rocks out here and dont need much flex. i plan on hittin some mud holes and some trail riding through woods. thats bout it.

everything is mocked up with bolts right now but next time im home im gona go over everything and weld it all in. im not really planing on doing anything else to reinforce the drop brackets. ive seen build threads on here where the guys just got old f150 drop brackets and bolted them in and called it a day. so i figured id be good with the stock rad arm brackets slid back on the frame. if they can hold everything further foward i dont see why they shouldnt be able to hold everything further back.

and danger i flipped through your build thread looks good ive been thinkin bout doin a d30 for a daily. (one of the million ideas i have running through my head haha) u like the way it drives/rides?

separated at birth:D

thanks bobby.

and i was flippin through other build threads and i just had an epiphany on the front springs. kinda stealin his idea. so i have to give credit to 7.5L_STX thanks man. right now my lower spring buckets are sketchy at best. take the bucket off (which theyre just u-bolted to right now) and i have some 1/2 plate steel lyin around and youll get the idea in the pic. i was gona get a nice spring bucket and weld it on but this way will be cheaper :icon_welder:

the red is the 1/2 plate. what do yall think?

I cant say enough good things about my D30 SAS. Rides so much better then the TTB it had under it, which is still sitting in the driveway waiting to be sent off for scrap. I will say, took a gamble on using the 6.5 lift XJ coils it came with and they ride very nicely.

As for your truck, cant you just order a set of new lower coil buckets or do your coils not line up properly as they are now? Got better pics of the lower buckets with the springs on them. As long as your coil has a good seating with your design, it should work, though 1/2inch steel seems over kill IMO.

i really like the idea for that plate, and i might borrow it if i ever get off my lazy bum and shove one of my D44's under my 84 B2. the questions i have are if you plan on welding it on the axle and just bolting it onto the top of the radius arms? or if you plan on welding everything? also are those the 6" lift ttb springs? also what did you do for the track bar? do you have any pictures of it?

I hope those aren't ttb springs, unless you plan on wearing a mouth guard.

danger, that sounds pretty good. i like it. the lower buckets are wider than the top buckets....yes i know that 1/2 plate is over kill but i got some layin around and this is build as budget as possible. lol yea you caught me. those are 6in ttb springs. i got the pr out of a junkyard for $30. i couldnt say no to that. do they ride that bad?

chuck, i plan on welding everything. the track bar isnt in yet when i go home next weekend im gona move it to a level surface so i get it centered under the truck. then ill be putting the track bar in. ill be posting pics of that with others next weekend. i live in virginia beach right now but home is in maryland 30min north of dc its a bitch tryin to build in another state i dont recomend it haha

TTB springs are stiffer then normal springs due to the TTB acts a lever on the springs applying 1.5 times more force then normal and thats why they have such a high pounds per inch rating. Basiclly you can run them but it will be a stiff ride (as said by other people, I've never run TTB springs on a SAS).
