4lo isnt working 98 ranger 4.0 5spd

my 4 hi works in my ranger but 4lo doesnt the light doesnt even come on i turn the switch to 4lo and it stays in ahi and the 4hi light stays on i have no idea what could be wrong changing my clutch soon soo would like to fix this at the same time

Most of the time it the motor on the back of your transfer case (Shift motor), it gets dirty. If you go to the Info - Technical section there is a thread about how to clean it (http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/TCaseshiftmotor.shtml <-- Here the thread).

Mr. Obvious here...make sure the transmission is in neutral and the brake pedal is depressed. Won't shift in or out of low range otherwise. I've overlooked it before.
