Let's start compiling known problems with the 2019+ Ford Rangers. What have you experienced?
Ford Touch Screen
Me personally, I had a 2019 Ford Ranger where the display screen for the radio / navigation / climate controls froze. The radio continued to play, but the display screen was completely frozen. I couldn't even turn the radio off by pushing the power button. If this happens to you, hold down the power button and the fast forward button at the same time for 15-seconds.
Windshield
I'm on my 2nd broken windshield in the 2021 Ford Ranger FX4. Unlike the previous Rangers, Ford didn't put a rubber trim piece around the outside edge of the glass and there's a gap between the glass and the windshield post. If a rock hit the corner edge of the glass it will crack it. My current windshield has three spots along the passenger edge of the windshield that were struck by rocks and caused three different cracks to go across my windshield. This wouldn't be a problem if Ford still put a rubber trim in that gap. You can find rubber trim for windshields online. Whenever I replace this windshield, I plan to invest in rubber trim to go around it.
Rear Pinion Seal Leak
I discovered that my rear pinion seal on my 2021 Ford Ranger FX4 was leaking back in December, but the pinion itself seems to still be tight. I ordered a seal but have not yet figured out the cause. It could be from a plugged axle vent tube causing it to build up pressure. I need to investigate it more now that it's warming up. It only leaks when I drive and I didn't lose that much driving to Ohio for Christmas. I just keep an eye on the fluid level and top it off if needed. I'll update this post when I fix the problem.
Wheel Speed Sensor
I drove off of a curb pulling out of a parking lot and the 2021 Ranger FX4 started flashing these error messages:
I used a scan tool and didn't get any codes, so I hooked up forscan and got the following DTCs:
PCM: U0422:00-2F (diagnostic trouble code that occurs when the other control modules on the vehicle are not communicating with each other)
PAM: UO415:00-2B (invalid data received from the ABS control module)
FCIM: B113C:11-48 (can't find a definition)
ATCM: U3000:49-08 (The module has permanently disabled an output because an excessive current draw fault (such as a short to ground) has exceeded the limits that the BCM can withstand)
ABS: C0037:65-C8 (Left Rear Wheel Speed Sensor: Signal Has Too Few Transitions / Events)
PSCM: U0415:00-08 (Invalid Data Received from Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) Control Module)
IPMA: U0418:86-AF (Invalid Data Received From Brake System Control Module)
I unplugged the left rear wheel sensor, plugged it back in, and then used forscan to reset the DTC's.
The error hasn't come back since and that was July 2023.
Transmission Slips
Back in January 2023, I pulled out of a parking lot in the2021 Ranger FX4 in the freezing cold and the transmission in my 2021 Ford Ranger slipped for a brief moment and then engaged.
No Power On Cold Acceleration
I've had a couple of experiences where I've pulled out of my driveway in my 2021 Ranger when it was cold (50 degrees or below) and the truck didn't respond for a moment when I gave it gas. I try to let it warm up for a while before I drive it.
