I decided to go to the ford website and build a ranger.... i wanted to see wuts up. i was disgusted at the amount of stuff available on the ranger. xl, xlt, and sport......ok welll maybe it will get better......priced a sport ....ummmm 3.55s, 3.73s and 4.10s........all non limited slips. I think they are trying to make the most inadequate offroad truck ever. atleast they have the manual still available unlike the f150. but still. only 2 engines for the truck. i couldn't even go through the packages i was so disgusted with the lack of any customization thus far. oh and before that you cannot get a 4.0l with a reg cab only extended. with the price of gas you would think they would cater a bit more to the compact truck like toyota or the nissan(hate those guys) but no. lets just phase it out and expect them to upgrade to an f150 or downgrade to a focus. first they get rid of the the crown vic....police and old people like them wtf now the ranger......what is going on, are the vp's high or just stupid.....i hope they are just gettin on the old peyote but the worst may be yet to come we survived the bailout on our own and we want to shoot out our own kneecaps with a large caliber...go figure..................

Ford's been streamlining the ranger and cutting back on the options and configurations for the last couple years.

There's a few options here and there but basically now with the ranger you can buy two trucks...the base model or the fully loaded. There's not much in between. As for the lack of LSD, they've added traction control instead.

I have to be honest, I think ford is right. The majority of "New car" Buyers would rather have an f150 than a Ranger, evidence of that is I see about 1 newer ranger (With the big logo on the tail gate) for every 9 or 10 of the 09+ f150s I see on the road. This is coming from a guy who is on the road at least 4 hours a day for his work. The members of this site can get as upset as we want, but me personally, much like other members I'd think, wouldn't buy a new truck even if we did have the money. So our opinion doesn't really have an impact on the decision to axe the ranger.

You complain about the lack of offroad capability, but how many people actually bought rangers off the lot with offroading ng mind?. What ford should do is design a vehicle to compete with jeep.*cough build the bronco concept cough* I can't count how many new jeeps I see driving around everyday...

ok i guess i can see that i live in nevada and i see rangers everywhere and when i say that we could prolly boost the members on the forum by half with the people i see between cali and here but i guess we can't help the f150 getting more fuel efficient and the focus even molre so. it is just sad that everyone is just out to make profit

I dunno if it's the Blue Oval-color glasses or what, but I seem to be noticing more Rangers up here in NH.

Yeah it sucks that you can't "have it your way" with a Ranger. But that's the way a lot of car companies are doing it these days. You either get "bare bones" or "fully loaded." Why do I have to purchase the ass-wiping seats when all I want is a CD player????

If they didn't, then we'd have to bail them out. Making a profit is how businesses stay in business.

Amen. Gotta make profit. No profit, no business, no business, NO Ford, F150, Ranger, Focus, or otherwise.

As for the lack of customization, its a sign of the times. Ford might be doing the best of all the companies, but its still a rough economy out there. Having a lot of customization available for the cars is expensive, and with the 5.4 F150 almost matching the 4.0 Ranger for fuel economy these days, well they just aren't selling like they used to.

Maybe not as many as those who bought Jeeps...
But that's precisely what I did when I bought mine back in '94. I looked at Toyota and the others and the Ranger with it's big beefy tierods (comparatively speaking), CV joint-less front axle & a suspension with less than half as many moving parts is what sold me on it (and knowing how well the rest of the truck holds up being there were already two in the family). Unfortunately Ford took much of the reason for me to buy another away in '98, although lately they've pretty much removed ALL reason for me to buy one new now (no 4x4 Reg cab stickshift model).

I think the lack of option choice reflects the fact that it's being phased out.
No limited-slip (but 4 wheel discs) is because of the new stability and traction control.
My '08 Sport Trac has it. In deep snow it sucks big-time.

haha i like how they made the new "wranglers" with 4-doors. that is what the cherokee was for 4-door suv not the "wrangler" even though i dislike jeep, but ford is forcing people to make choices, it sux

I agree, and very well put bcost882.

We need to bombard Ford with our ideas for the ranger! I think they need to make a Raptor Ranger! I want to see that!

i wonder if its because a ranger redesign is appearing soon. they need to, because obviously the motors (especially the 4.0's) are not fuel efficient enough, and also everyone is so used to the ranger body style that theyll buy a f150 just for something that looks newer.

i also think they need to up the size overall just a tad.. make it roomy enough inside for 4 grown men on the extended cab versions... it would go a looong way for sales. especially if you could put a baby seat in the back.

I actually e-mailed ford with an email talking about the diffrences between euro rangers and american ranger. They seem to feel in simplest terms that americans need to be herded to what they really want. If i didn't like fords so much i would be upset.(and they didn't actually say that in the email)

I hate to say this about Ford exsecutives, but I think their a bunch of blue-bellied chicken s*** cowards for trying to kill the best and longest lasting compact pickup ever built. IMO
