2011 ranger *rant*

Seasonal roads around Warren and a few "trails" in the Allegheny state forest. I put trails in quotes because they are wide, but other than that not very road like. I didn't go through any mud for obvious reasons but it also isn't marketed as a mud truck.

Now have you driven a stock f150 through same "trail"? Im not doubting you in anyway.... Im just stating that head to head is far more capable than regular stock f150, especially at high speed offroad.

Well that doesn't say much for the base f-150 then. I have driven an F-150 on similar roads. I understand you are trying to defend the Raptor but let's be real. Like everything else it's half hype, half truck. That is all I am saying. It's nowhere near what some people think it is. In fact, dollar for dollar you could possibly build an F-150 to be even more capable.. And you won't have to scour junkyards either.

Personally, dollar for dollar I would rather have a F-250 with a 6.2, the extra stuff with the Raptor is useless around here.

Building a rig that would either be more capible on road or off road would be easy, making it as capable for both would be tough.

I went through and removed any response that was of no value to this thread.

r1hatman: Consider this a warning. Anymore smartass replies from you and you'll be on vacation.

Jason: Stop adding fuel to the fire.

Aww shucks. You got it. :icon_thumby:

*....Crickets....*

So back onto the ranger mess... while i was at the dealer today getting recall work done a salesman of course tried to get me to buy a new car... i shot him down and his face dropped as soon as i said im not spending 30 thousand dollars on a car or truck i dont want and i want a 5 speed (of course no 5 speeds on the lot) then we got into the discussion about rangers (which they had a real nice black ranger with cobra rims on it in the showroom) and from wat him and his "Boss" say after 2012 no more ranger their phasing it out to bring back the F100... if its true or not i have no idea but it could be something to look into... So i commenced to tell him that the F150s they had on the lot were way overpriced (42,000 for the cheapest one) and that i would not buy a new car from anywhere and that their used selection wasnt that great... but yet in the salesman attitude "heres my card if you decide you want a car or truck give me a call and ill get you one sent over to your liking"... when the truth is i dont like any new car or truck their getting too bulky, way overpriced, and as has been stated in this thread already no options...

Jason always does this but in complete understanding anyways... Not really stocking the fire peoples are just getting too worked up to read properly.

I agree with 85 ranger personally, I would rather get a truck that is going to suit my needs anyways.

Besides why are we arguing? We all are cheap skates, we would all go buy the cheapest truck on the lot and use our master skills and just add the stuff we want anyways with the money we saved. You could probably get a cheap F150 bare bones with the motor you want and with the extra 30 some thousand dollars make it into the desert runner you wanted. Yes you will spend the same amount of money on the truck but you also have the exact truck YOU want not something that anyone with money could buy...

Well put your money where you mouth is and go buy a Raptor or two. Frankly, I looked in to buying one in Warren, PA. I drove it and found that it's no better than a TRD Tundra except for power. All that talk about suspension and whatnot means nothing when you inspect it. It's just a truck with a fancy body. It may be something special for Ford, but it's the same as what others have already done.

You're out of your mind.

I went for a test ride in a Raptor in the desert at Primm Nevada. Desert racer Greg Foutz was behind the wheel and he was hammering that truck offroad. It wasn't a flat course either. They had plenty of hills and dips in it to really work the suspension and Greg was getting the tires off of the ground.

It's way more than a truck with a fancy body. It has a beefed suspension with Fox shocks and the ride off-road would amaze you.

finally.... someone thats been in one! lol. speaking of getting airborn, i just did that today! lol.

I drove it off road. I have also been off-road in Yokohama's desert truck in 1997. I was exaggerating to make a point but the Raptor is far less than impressive.

I'll take some of what your smoking please. How about double the wheel travel of any TRD truck, perfected valving and no shock fade all courtesy of fox shocks, first production truck to run them. Maybe to you its just a fancy body, go buy a tundra :icon_rofl:
