Finally getting round to some body work...

Been awhile....haven't made much "forward " progress...mostly backward. Kinda started over. Started wet sanding the fenders, getting my feet wet - see what I did there - I get it now. I could make it shine, but the black was too thin. Ended up going back to base primer, then sealer. That was a disaster. So went back to primer. Getting ready for sealer again. I've had problems picking up the skills using the gun and mixing the paints hardener and sealer. Then figuring out the right pressures and volumes with the gun.
The learning curve is steep...specially if you're me  Anyway, hopefully I'm getting there. ✌️

Still at it, but yesterday finally discovered what I was doing wrong. :yahoo:

Since my last post, I've been sanding, priming, sealing and painting the fenders and tailgate at least twice. Also finally did the hood. I Just could not get it right. It was shiny, but lots of orange peel. I could wet sand and make it better, but that's not a lot of fun to do with the amount of sheet metal involved.

I'm using a gun with a 1.7 tip - great for priming and thicker paints, not so much for finish coats, especially at full throttle. While I was getting ready to paint the right front fender for the third time I started playing with the nozzle adjustment, closing it down a little at a time and dingdingding.

Why I didn't think of this before is above my pay grade - f-ing dumb as rock. Keep doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. No excuse for that.:idiot:

At any rate, I laid down a near perfect coat of black. There are specs of dust in it because I'm not painting in very clean environment with poor lighting. but I will correct all that before my next and hopefully last go round.

Also messed up my lower back yesterday too for good measure and am down for a couple of days, but I need a break

Will post up more pics after the next go round.

Right front fender:
The runs along the top of the fender occurred before I adjusted the nozzle - and yes, I will paint this fender yet again.

Paint laid down nice. Getting everything perfect can be hard to do. You are doing the hardest color and making it look nice. Great job!! I have thrown my back out just getting out of bed. Yea for old age.

This is why I stayed away from body work... I just don't have enough patience for it.

Good on you Mr Rumblecloud (sounds like an Indian name given at birth on a stormy night) for sticking with it and building your skill set. You go man!

If it were I doing a couple repaints... there would surely be some dent removal required too.

I sneezed really hard the other day... threw my back out a bit... got a Charlie Horse in my abs and might have even pissed myself a little.

I'm building my skill set to deal with old age...
