I was wondering if anyones ever put a 8.8 rearend from a 1990-92 ford ranger and tried to bolt it up to a 1987 ranger with the 2.3l 4cyl? I c that the wms to wms is exact same.and they share the same universal joint on both.will yoke from the 8.8 fit on the 2.3l drive shaft since they share the same universal joint.i also think pinion length is exact same as well.im in the process on this swap.just curious if this a complete bolt on swap with no modifications?any info would be great.
 
When I did this using an Explorer 8.8 and d35 on my 87 BII, I had to have the drive line shop weld the front flang fom the BII to the the Explorer rear drive line. I did make corrections for the new ride hieght and angles. Since you do not need to flip Ranger 8.8's, build your spring pack 1st using the new springs+some the old leaves to get the rear hieght you desire. Then measure the distance from your transfer flang to your axle flange. Give this info to the drive line Bubba .)

Since you get to build the pack for the hieght you want, you may also require longer "U" bolts. This is a prime time to invest in some quality fasteners. I know that James Dufff INC sells replacement U-bolt sets. I just went to my local suspension shop and told them what I needed .)

Anytime you raise one of these, longer brake lines in the front may become a necessity. Igrabbed a set off ebay but never needed to use them. An increase in ride hieght may also justify the use of taller bumpstops too.

I replaced a blown up 7.5 with an 8.8 on a ranger and it was a bolt in swap.
 
7.5 to 8.8.direct bolt in

So far it is a direct bolt in.the only thing i had to use from parts truck was the yoke.and i couldn't reuse my factory rear swap bar.the arch is differnent on the 7.5 to the 8.8.thats about it.all brake lines fittings are all the same as well as the ebrake cables.not bad for a 250 parts truck that still runs.
