well,it's finally happened.the 2.9l ranger engine i've had running my air compressor for the last 5 years(and the one that was thoroughly beaten on before driving my butt up to these islands)has finally done it.

it's started puking coolant out the overflow,even when cold...and i've got enough experience with these motors to know what that means.

well,i'm not wasting time or money on a worn out 2.9,so i looked around the yard to see what was lying around to replace it with.

here's one...

Totally understand that but going flat or negative is just gonna create more issues of rely on some ugly and interesting frame brackets I don’t mind some arch. It’s a ranger on 32s not a belly dragger on 40s

I’m not saying how easily or feasible it is, I was just commenting on the YJ springs aren’t exactly great even in a YJ, lol

Yeah I’ve seen a few bmw powered rangers. lol if they weren’t so raspy and produced torque or looked cool or even had a decent 4x4 trans option I could see the appeal

Agree to disagree lol your friends the only one I’ve heard complain or hate em. I know plenty running and loving them as far as flex and ride goes most only swap to waggy springs for “the stretch” but these are just a starting point. In my opinion given the budget and rangers frame layout it’s a great choice.

IIRC, he made a bmw engine into his air compressor.

Dude was nuts (in a good way). His build threads were insane.

from the beginning.

i wanted to put a good,economical wheeling machine together-something i could use for exploring and camping,that would be tough enough to beat on a bit and still get me home.

it had to be a ranger,but all i was worried about finding was a solid frame and body,as i was expecting to change out pretty much everything else.

this is what i found.

a 1986 ranger 2wd 4cyl 5 spd,$500.needed a little tweaking to get it running(it was a lawn ornament for a couple of years where it was)but i drove...

it's september now,so i need to start planning the winter projects.among the usual stuff,i also need an indoor project as it gets dark and cold very early here.
so this is my winter evening time-burner.

it's a 1970 triumph gt6 i aquired some time ago.i was going to go full resto on it,but there are too many hard to find(expensive)original parts i would need to source.if i go hot rod,i don't need to worry about the parts all being correct.
but for power,i don't want to go with the usual over done V8,ford or otherwise.
