I have an 04 ranger 2.3l 5 speed manual 2wd and it had an oil leak and I let my sister use it and she ran it out of oil so now I got a knock in the motor(one of the pistons are hitting the head) ... I'm looking to sell it. It is my first truck so I really don't want to but I just lost my job and I need the money I need to know how much I should sell her for... It has been rear ended so the tailgate has a big dent in it(still opens and closes just fine) and the rear bumpers bent down at a slight angle other than that minor dents and scratches. The transmission is completely fine. I need to know approximately how much I should sell it for?? The motor has 150k on it.

Welcome to TRS :)

Sorry to read about your trouble

Can't say what value is because it is related to location.

Look in your local craigslist or local truck trader, that will give you the average ASKING price, not value, just asking price, for '03-'05
And ignore Dealer pricing, "for sale by owner", are the prices you need

It will vary by a few thousand from one part of the country to another

Then look up used 2.3l duratec engine, must be 2001 or newer, older 2.3l was a Lima engine, not the same and won't fit.
Should be $900 to $1,500

Subtract that from the asking price and put it in as Mechanics special
A lot of mechanics and DIYers look for vehicles with blown engines or transmissions, they repair them and sell them, so there is a market.

Be willing to take less because it is asking price not actual value, seller can't set value, only a buyer can.
So grain of salt, the more buyers you get calls from the better, so make asking price low enough to get them to respond to ad, but high enough to give you some room to drop it a bit more
