‘94 4x4 Swap/Build

Some careful work with a dremel or rasp and sandpaper could make that bezel indistinguishable from factory...
I don’t want to open it up anymore in case I put another aftermarket radio in. The sleeve has to grip on to the opening.

Truck is torn apart again. Finally regearing and almost nailed the setup on the D30 first try. Backlash is tight at .0035”. Hopefully get a decent pattern after I get the BL set. Ran one as it sits just to see and it looks good in my eyes.

I can pull the entire front end apart in under an hour if I’m motivated.

Ring and pinion installs went ok. Rear gave me some trouble and had a whine to it when I got it together. Ended up pulling it back apart and pulling .005” out of the pinion depth and resetting backlash. Nice and quiet now. 4.56 gears are awesome!

For quite some time, I’ve had trouble hearing whatever two-way radio I’ve had in the truck. It’s just too loud in there. So, a year or so back I bought an external speaker and kept it on the seat when I needed it but it would constantly end up on the floor. Staring at the “dummy” vent in the dash got me thinking and I decided to molest the external speaker and mount it in the dash.. pointed almost directly at my face.

Mounted the circuit board to the magnet with hot glue

I’ll solder the wires back to the board and run the external jack down through the dash and to the radio. This should let me get the radio up off the floor now as well.

More pics when I actually shove it back into the dash. I don’t remember what the opening in the dash looks like so I may have to remove the board to make it fit.

Got the external speaker put in the dash. Huge improvement over the built in speaker.

Radio is still down on the floor. It has gotten wet down there but still works perfectly.
