the 89 harness probably wound mate to the cab harness from the explorer without modifying right?

No, it wouldn't. I keep forgetting you used the dash harness from the ex as well as the engine harness. The mustang harness is favored for V8 swaps for pre 95 rangers as it is pretty much a standalone harness with only a few wires to connect (power, fuel pump, and gauges). I'm also prepping to do a V8 swap in my 02 sport trac, I'm using my mustang motor with the ex intake, harness, ecu, and trans..
