did some blasting on the rusted exhaust flanges.
used the black grit stuff, and a punch for the hard rust boogers.
there is a lot of metal missing, the gasket doesn't even come close on two sides.
time to find a welder.

this is a 2000 3.0, rust belt special.

My credo
Let the universe take you where it will !!!
Didn't make as much progress as I planned, had baby duty while my wife cleaned this morning, than went and fixed the pass. Front door handle on my father in laws 98 explorer. Crazy how if the handle return springs fail, it prevents the actuator from falling enough to unbind the lock mechanism. Anyway I started putting the final touches on the dash wiring. Wireless ignition is wired in to the 4.0 harness, all indicator light, dash light wiring from the 83 guage cluster plug, is wired into the 4.0 guage cluster plugs some pics of how the wiring behind the guages looks now, and a pic of how it will look with the 91 cluster I. Place sort of. No pics of the 4x4 controler, or my wireless start system, I dont want to show how it's wired for security reasons. If anyone would like more info in what I use I will post more in my build log.

I laid eyes on it for the first time in almost a month. Gotta put rear coil springs in the wife’s car today and take the front tires from her gator to get plugged/replaced. Then I might get time to work on the Ranger tonight.

I replaced the wiper transmissions in my 1998 B300. Was a piece of cake until I dropped the bolt that holds the transmission arm to the wiper motor. Took an hour to find it lol

Got the new seal on and finally got the parking brake cable connected, but the passenger wheel was hot when I got home and the e brake isn't holding. If I'm driving to Indiana on Friday, someone else will have to sort this out for me.

Just pretend you didn't notice the wheel getting hot and use park like a normal person.

Easy fix!

A few days late, but Friday afternoon I changed the original rear diff lube for full-synthetic. At 106K miles the truck was due for that service. This is the 8.8" rear, 3.55:1 ratio, regular (open) diff (not limited-slip).

That job went pretty well. The worst part was getting the fill plug and diff cover bolts loose, since in 10 years they had never been loosened. I used Aerokroil penetrating oil on the plug and bolts. Ford used only sealant with no gasket on the diff cover, but I added a Fel-Pro fiber gasket and used sealant on both sides. Permatex quick-dry RTV was the sealant used. The second-worst part, before reassembly, was getting the old gasket material off the diff cover.

The synthetic was Amsoil 75W-90 severe duty. As an experiment, 10% of the fill is Molyslip gear oil moly supplement, but I've used Molyslip products before with good results.

You shouldn't need sealant when you're using the gasket.
