I have a 92 xlt ranger that has had problem after problem with the 4x4. The hubs went first, and i put some sturdy manual hubs on. It worked fine for about a year. Then the shift motor was thrown out of sync, which is apparently common. After breaking a tamper proof T20 head on the motor case i caved and bought a new motor instead of rebuilding. I got that put on and tested the 4x4, key turned, engine off. It engaged fine. When I test drove it 5 minutes later it wouldnt shift. I checked the module behind the drivers seat, and it was giving me a solid red light, so something went wrong with it. I should add that the blue and green sensor wires that are apart of the shift motor were kept on but i did not replace the single brown wire that seems to also be a sensor. It is currently cut, without a pin in the plug. Could that wire be the culprit?

time to swap in a manual t-case......no but there are a few products that turn an electronic shift to a "manual" operation style

did you check the connection between the shift motor and the stock chassis harness...it could be a little nasty in it

Yeah I had a little manual shift option of my own for a few weeks. It involved a sheet metal curtain rod and lots of duct tape. I would love to have a real manual t case, but hopefully i can get this working cuz i already dropped a bill on the new shift motor. I think that unplugged sensor probably confused the module, it was stupid of me not to reconnect it
