Great radio, although it lacks SSB mode. Not a huge number of people use SSB however so that might not matter much if, say, it's just to keep in touch with your buddies on the road or trail.

If you're getting into radio as a hobby however, I'd definitely look for a Cobra 148 or Galaxy or something similar.

Jesse at JN Wrecker has a Cobra 29 with Bluetooth in his F-750 rollback. Works great.:icon_thumby:

doesn't really matter all cbs have the same output its just the functions they have that is different. Oh and when you mount it if you use duel antennas you will cast an oval pattern for radio field strength rather than a circular pattern with a single antenna. Basically with duels you throw your signal farther in two directions rather than 360 degrees.

With dual antennas, you need to be sure they are far enough apart also, otherwise they can actually hurt each-other's signal...

actually, you probably couldn't get them far enough apart. even the big rigs are just barely wide enough with the antennas out on the farthest part of their mirrors.
as for radiation pattern, what will effect it most is where your antenna is mounted on your truck. mounting it on any corner will give the greatest gain (range) toward the opposite corner. mounting it as close as you can to the center would be best. and keeping as much of the antenna as possible above the truck body will also help get the most range from it. just my $.02.

There can be huge differences in the clarity of your transmitted audio with different radios, which would affect the intelligibility of your signal (often it's because of the cheap microphone included with cheaper radios, but not always). Also the quality of reception is usually better in a good radio too.
