As luck goes, tons of snow and no 4x4.. Instead of bringing it (99 B4000/Ranger) in and paying diagnostic fees up front, I figure I'll take a stab at replacing the vacuum locking hubs with the Rugged Ridge 15001.70 manual locking hubs.. as far as troubleshooting, I flip the switch and the hubs aren't doing anything.

Two questions, does anyone have any pictures of these mounted? Also, the lasts posts I read were a few years old, I assume this is still the way to go?

Thanks, sorry for the old topic.

Look here: http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/AVM_hub_swap.shtml

PVH were a problem, and changing to manual hubs is best way to "fix" them.

If you have wheel jacked up and Lock the Hub then when you turn the wheel drive shaft should turn.
When unlocked drive shaft won't turn
If thats how it is then hubs should be on correctly

But.............electric transfer case shifting was no cake walk "always works" circuit.

Look here for troubleshooting that system: http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/transfercasetroubleshooting.htm

Use 1995 and up, of course

Couple more questions, the lights on the dash work fine as the other stuff attached to the fuse (#27 15A) so I'm good there. I will venture out to confirm the fuse under the hood in the battery junction box as well.
In 4 low, regardless of the front hubs engaged, shouldn't I still get the transfer case low gearing? What I'm wondering is if the transfer case switching motor is bad??

Either way, I order the manual locking hubs..

Thanks!
