Has anyone attempted to rotate the compressor housing on a turbo? I'm looking to bu a turbo for the Ranger, but all of the turbo's that i have seen have the output of the cold side going perpendicular to the input of the exhaust. In my set up, the pipe for the cold side would go through the cab :annoyed:
Is it possible to rotate the housing so that it is facing a more natural direction or am i SOL?:dunno:

It's not usually a problem. You might have to rotate the hot side as well so that the oil and coolant lines clear the manifold.

All aftermarket turbos are made so you can rotate both the cold and hot sides and also the center section.

Most turbos can be clocked. I had to clock both the turbine and compressor housing on mine. You will want the oil drain to be straight down.

That is very good to know. Otherwise I would be having to do perform surgery to the cab for the intake piping. Now I just need to decide on if I'm going to go with a T40E or a GT45 turbo. I'm thinking that the T40E may be too small for a 4.0

I have rotated housings on both of my Subaru turbos, a VF11 and TD04 with no issues.

Ive seen lots of turbos housing spun"reclocked" and I also have run into some aftermarket turbos have a small dowell pin to keep origanal position so I would do alot of research before purchase, and good luck!!

Thanks for the help guys. I'm prepping the truck now to figure out the remote turbo system piping and what not. Expect a build thread from me soon. Once my limited slip is installed this week, I'm going to start ordering parts and doing many many mock ups to make sure this goes as smoothly as possible. :icon_welder:
