How do you remove the rear leaf spring brackets on a 1994 Ford Ranger 4X4. I got the rea one already off the one with the shackle. I cant get the bracket that towards the motor off. It has rivets. How do you remove the rivest? And do you have to drop your gas tank to be able to do this

Take the bed off, grind the rivet head off, and punch them out.

You do NOT have to drop the gas tank.

Grind the heads of the rivets off if you don't have access to torches, and then punch the rest of the rivet through. I've never had to remove a bed or a gas tank to replace them at work.

Drill the holes out to 1/2" and use 1/2" grade 8 hardware. To get the bolts in for the front driverside bracket, use some wire to fish it through.

Pulling the bed will take a T55 torx bit, available at pretty much any parts store or sears. There are 3 screws at the gas tank fill and one plug for the rear lights. A friend will be very handy for lifting the bed off. Its not too heavy but it is really awkward.

x2 on the grind and punch and replace with grade 8s. works like a charm. only i didnt do any drilling to fit larger bolts. all a matter or preference though, sure its not a bad upgrade

The easiest way I have found besides a torch is to grind a slot in the rivit like a standard screw. All the way through then use an air chisle and the head pops right off then the rivits pop right out with the air chisle.
