A friend of mine is trying to track down a 3.55 geared Explorer with an L/S. Door code D5.

But he can't find ANY of them, and has reportedly found 20+ 3.73 L/S units and 1 4.10 L/S and several pick'n pulls. No 3.55's of any flavor.

Is this just some bad luck in the yards? I thought 3.55 was pretty common. Also, did Ford push the 3.73 ratio for the L/S package?

If anyone reads this around the Lansing-ish Mi. area and has a lead, I'd appreciate it so I can pass it along.

I can second this. They were all 7.5s though.

I realize 3.73's are quite common, but I know for a fact they're not all that's out there. My friend Mack's Ranger has 3.08's, I have verified this by the axle tag AND the door code personally.

So back to the question at hand, are 3.55 L/S EXPLORER 8.8's a rare bird only existing as a code in a catalog, or did a number actually get produced?

3.73s indeed are very common. 3.55 does exist though... I think they were most common in the '91-'92 models.
