When I start my truck cold (35-45), as I pull out of my drive, with a slight grade up hill, as I give just a small amount of throttle, the 1st gear pulls, but there is a delay ( a second or two) to go into 2nd gear. The problem is that as this delay of going into 2nd, the truck loses almost all power. You will be jerked forward in your seat, then rocked back into the seat as 2nd comes in. I've tried giving a it a little more, to a lot more throttle, as it shifts to 2nd. there is NO throttle response as it shifts. Anyone have this problem ? It's kinda alarming to lose all power as your truck shifts 1st to 2nd.

Do you have a "snow" selection for transmission?
Select it
That will start you out in 2nd, maybe even 3rd, instead of 1st

I would assume the issue is fluid temp, so Remote Start would work as well, warm up for 5-10min first

The Ford 10-speed has "almost" a Granny gear 1st, at 4.6 ratio, 2nd is 2.9 ratio, thats over a 1.5 ratio difference
Yes, "granny gears" were usually 5.5 ratio or higher, so wouldn't even be used unless hauling a big load or Crawling, lol

The older Ranger 4R/5Rs had a 2.47 ratio 1st gear

A lot of people have this same complaint with the new trucks, theres (at least one) good thread about the issue on the 5g forum.

No "Snow" select on my 2020 Ranger XL STX 4X4. Just the standard 2H, 4H, and 4L. Your right, 1st feels very low like a "granny" gear. I've notice in 4L with tranny in D, it doesn't want to shift above 5th gear or so. All the shifts happen much higher in the RPM's, around 3,500. I guess Ford thinks you don't need gears higher than that in 4L. I guess I'll just be stuck with a loss of power in 1st to 2nd shifts when cold. I don't care to warm up the vehicle more than 3-5 minutes, just a waste of fuel. that's the ol' man in me.

You might double check your fluid level to be safe. Apples/oranges but when my A4LD was low on fluid there was a delay in shifting.

My 2019 is like that when it's cold and it goes away after things warm up.

What year is it? I think there might be a tsb for this issue on 19 and 20s.. not positive though.

You're right sgtsandman, the thing is when cold and shifting 1st to 2nd, there is a power loss between shifts. enough to jerk your body forward. I've been varying throttle on take off, and when you use more than you think you need on take off (almost spinning the rear wheels), the loss of power is less. But Ford TSB search for my 2020 Ranger XL shows NO outstanding issues for my truck. maybe one will be issued. I've notified ford about the problem.

Still have the same issues when cold. It's best to select the S in transmission, put in second gear, and go. Takes off uphill just fine in second.
