All I know is Ford thought it was necessary and if they could have saved 3 cents by using single platinum plugs on both banks they would have lol
Technically you can use old fashion copper plugs in the 4.0. Just depends how often you wanna change them. Double platinum plugs don't physically work any better than single platinum or even copper, they simply last longer.
