To anyone who has this style steering wheel:

I noticed that there is a big gap in between the airbag part and the rest of the steering wheel. See pics:

I know this is most likely not correct. Can someone get some pics of how it's supposed to be please?

I know the airbags were deployed. I crashed the truck 5 months ago. What I'm trying to figure out is if the gap has always been there and I never noticed it, or if the airbag wasn't reinstalled correctly. And if/when I fix the airbag myself, I'll know when it sits in the steering wheel correctly by comparing it to the pictures.

I don't know if you should mess with it. It might not be safe to mess with the steering wheel with that air bag!! I thought about getting a custom steering wheel for my 99Ranger years ago but was adviced not to by my Ford Dealership and the auto place I asked about buying a steering wheel. I just never got one and mine still looks new but it is STOCK!!!!! lol

What the hell are you talking about? I never said anything about getting an aftermarket steering wheel. I just want to fix the big gap near the airbag, which is perfectly safe to mess with once the battery is disconnected.

I have noticed that the gap on that style wheel generally looks wide compared to most other Fords. The gap in the pics that you posted looks excessive even for that style wheel. I'd have to say I don't think the air bag module is clipped in properly.

I thought you knew things about cars. Air bags are not at all dangerous when handled correctly and carefully. It is recommended to disconnect the battery before playing with the system, but I personally have done over 100 of the F-150 air bag recalls (which involves unplugging the steering wheel air bag) without ever unhooking a battery or setting off an air bag. Frankly they are not as liable to "just go off" as everyone seems to have been lead to believe.
